No Sound Through Headphones Fix
I had a problem where I couldn't get Skyrim SE audio to come through my headphones, it would only play through speakers even when all other pc audio came through headphones. After searching for a couple hours and finding tons of people with the same issue online, but NO solution, I finally found a fix that worked for me, so if anyone has this issue I hope this helps: in the skyrim launcher, just change it to borderless windowed mode. For some reason being full screen mode locked the audio to my sound bar. Hope this helps someone

I also had the same problem but found another solution.

Obviously there was no issue with sound using speakers, but nothing through several headphones. I stumbled across the suggestion to hit the Windows Key and while playing the game.

Hitting those two keys causes a toolbar to popup on the game screen for sound, video.... Clicking on the sound icon caused another box to popup that displays the audio signals and allows you to adjust the volume.

I had this box open on the screen and plugged my headphones into the jack and saw that the volume went down to about 15%. I adjusted the volume higher and Voila, my headphones worked!!!!

I have no idea why the headphones cause the volume to go down.... nor do I care. Problem solved.

By default Windows seems to assume sometimes headphones without a mic are as much a 'communications device' as a webcam or actual headset and will automatically drop the sound. You can find that setting under the sound devices panel.
so this is happening to me right now, and whats even more strange, is that when I hit the window key, nothing happns at all. In every other game it opens up the toolbar. Any ideas? My skyrim launcher is not in full screen and I dont see any options to change the screen size or anything like that

My problem does not completely coincide with the topic, but it is very similar. The sound in Skyrim completely disappeared only in the speakers, some of the sounds disappeared through the headphones. In my case, this problem was solved after installing the latest versions of Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) and (x64) from the Microsoft website

I think they are talking about the Xbox game bar. You activate that by pressing the Windows Key and G together.

for me, it was an issue of where I was plugging my headphones in. I was plugging them into the monitor, but I just switched it to my main pc and it works again. that was weird.
