College of Winterhold quest "Containment" not starting.
When Revealing the unseen ends, the Containment quest doesn't seem to start.
I've tried reloading solid saves but that doesn't seem to work.

Any suggestions?

yeah, savos is dead as a doorknob and nothing else seems to be happening.
currently, My best fix is to just skip the quest- just remember to spawn in the torc.

Didn't Mirabelle give the torc to you?

Did you go out to the walking bridge and talk to Faralda and Arniel Gane and got then to go to the end of the bridge to winterhold to fight the magic anomaly's? there are at first 10 and then after defeating the ten magic anomaly's with Faralda and Arniel Gane you returned to Mirabelle to get the door knocker and then you leave to go off to Labyrinthian on the walking bridge and another two magic anomaly's appear!..

They hadn't yet spawned as the quest hadn't started.
I am currently playing on a modded sse and encountered this bug where after you confront ancano and he kills aren the next quest does not start console commands do not work to advance the quest and after you finish talking to mirabelle she gets up wnd starts walking around acting as if nothings wrong and ancano starts walking around outside the forcefield too. Arens body is outside but the quest does not start and i cannot progress the college storyline. The only mod i have that affects the college itself is magical college of winterhold. I will try disabling that on my next session but ive already tried restarting at a older save earlier in the mzulft quest wnd still ran into the same bug. I do have uesp installed but that does not seem to ix this bug.

I just had this bug yesterday. The issue was another quest had targeted Labrynthian. I f you have any other quest involving Labrynthian, complete it before returning to the college.

Im not sure what other quests i might have that conflict im doing a non main quest run so far with LAL and only large quests i have are moon and star and inigo but not sure if any of those involve labyrinthian. :s so if those cant advance without main quest i might have to do something else then....

Ok i tried disabling magical college and its still broken only major quests i have are unseen, moon and star, restoring order (saints and seducers quuest) live another life, and where are you inigo. Misc quests include face sculptor, shrine of azura, join legion/stormcloaks, talk to stock broker (stonks mod) find song of alchemists for lami, amulets for fethis in raven rock, talk to aventus arentino, and unusual gem. Not sure which among those conflicts. Ive finished the dawnguard questline in its entirety and havent touched companions or thieves guild or db yet.

I recommend NOT disabling any mods! That will likely cause other issues.

I honestly do not have any answer for you because I don't want to lead you down a wrong path.

I discovered my issue source and had to do some console command/quest twisting to resolve it.

The UESP says this: https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Staff_of_Magnus

Read the bottom of the Bugs section.

You will need to find exactly what specific quest you have that points to Labrynthian.
After you leave Mzulft but before you return to the College, use the console to complete that particular quest. Then you can return and all SHOULD proceed properly.

And that is the path I said I did not want to lead you down.

he doesn't mean actually disabling mods he means turning off objectives in the quest menu :-)

if Unseen seems to complete properly just doesn't start Containment, I'd try 'startquest mg05' and see if it picks up and moves along as it should, and pray, as you might have to keep doing this console crap to finish the whole quest arc once you start, giving yourself the gear and rewards, making people dead who need to be dead, etc. it's a lot of no-fun hassle.

the problem with reloading, if a recent one didn't work, who knows, hell, you might have to go waaaay back, before Under Saarthal where the chain of events start, there's simply no way to know...

the issue with just using 'setstage' 'setobjectivecompleted' 'completequest' etc is, if you hop over inter-stage points, you could end up bypassing scripting events that way, any variables or states that are set won't be, any auto-started "next steps" like moving actors to markers and setting their packages won't happen, etc... if you have the CK installed you'll have the papyrus sources, you can go diving and find all of them, or try 'sqv <questID>' but it's really a shot in the dark, unless they're clearly named so you can figure them out and just boolean 0/1 for values; it's a headache to 'setpqv <questID> <variable> <value>' a bunch of times, nonetheless. (and most quests have multiple scripts, and a catch-all utility script where they dump temp things that almost always end up being kept.)

this is why you pray to not to the gods of Nirn, but to Arthmoor and friends for USSEP. not that they can solve the entirety of glitchy possibilities considering how many mods exist and are made to coexist, but so many thousands of things are being done for you you never never think about.

@warriorofthewind - you really need to start your own thread. It just adds to the confusion when you piggyback onto someone else's FIVE year old one, whose issue is, in all likelihood, caused by something totally different.
