Removing player essential flag from uninstalled mod?
Mod was uninstalled via Vortex. The pc is still labeled as essential. How can I disable this? console commands "TIM" and "setessential 0" were tried with no luck. I fixed this issue years ago but dont remember how I did it... any suggestions?

Are you trying to do this on an existing save file? If so it could be backed into the save file.

Any way to clear it from the save file?

I believe this works:

type: help [your character name]
put quotes around the name if it contains spaces or symbols

this will give you the base id of your character

type: setessential [your character's base id] 0

No, once something is baked into a save, it cannot be removed. Bethesda have tried, and they cannot edit info out of a save file like that. This is why people say you cannot remove mods (except for texture mods that do not have a plugin) during an ongoing save. Your best bet is to test on a brand new save without the mod and see if the problem is still there.

If the flag is set once by the mod my method should work. However if the mod had a script that continually ran or did so every load then it probably is still present in some form and will simply revert back.

If you really want to try to keep the save you could try using a save cleaner but they aren't perfect. I haven't used it myself but the only one I know of is FallrimTools on nexus.

Its definatly hooked onto the save file itself, but it shouldnt be impossible to be removed, just difficult. Im going to try using Falrim tools in more detail when I have the time. If the essential marker is on the savefile, falrim tools should help find the scripts for that.

I absolutly love falrim tools. I just tried it and saw a few of the scripts, but I still couldnt fix the issue. I will probably try again later as this isnt a huge issue (just annoying), but im sure if I find all those scripts and kill them I will be fine. I didnt think id need to go this far...

Just be aware, there are many people smarter than I who do not believe Fallrim can actually clean files in this way in a safe manner, and the instability may not be noticable immediately.

I love your pessimism and your correct... its not safe, so I will be sure to back things up. I have used Falrim tools to get SKSE off Skyrim 32bit allowing me to transfer my saves from Oldrim to Special Edition. Its a handy tool. I even used modio back in 2012 to transfer these same characters from xbox 360 to Oldrim PC. I have experienced instability and even fixed most of the instability with careful use of falrim tools, but you make a good point... instability would be a potential issue especially considering the age of my characters and what they have been through... backups will be done.
