Skyrim SE: Legacy of the dragonborn, night at museum quest CTD
I have recently installed the Legacy of the Dragonborn mod + it's alternate life version Relic Hunter. I initially had some crashes to desktop when going to specific places and thought to have fixed that by uninstalling SMIM and Skyrim Flora overhaul mods and starting a new game.

The quest has now worked perfectly fine up to the point where I have collected 300 artifacts and started the quest "Night at the Museum". At one point in the quest I have to find a painting and after i put in on display I need to go sleep in a bed in the Staff Barracks. After a short loading screen my game always crashes to desktop at this point.

I tried rearranging my load order with SSEEdit and Loot and replaying the whole quest from a save before i even started the quest but still i get the same results...

Hope someone might have a solution for me, since i fell in love with the LOTD mod and questline

If you do have a working save from before you started the quest, there is a by-pass command prompt script you can use located on this quest's wiki. It even states the quest is optional, so I assume it doesn't stop you from further progression in this mod.

Edit; also kind of implies the modder knows some people have issues doing this quest.

i have a working save from before i started the quest and tried doing exactly what you are suggesting. but i am at a point in the stage where the whole area gets changed up (living manquinns walking around, chairs in locations where they shouldnt be, and i even cant access the main features of the museum's mod like displaying artifacts) and doing the setstage command doesnt change the area back to normal, neither does it say the quest is finished..

Do you have SKSE64 installed? The Mod configuration menu for Legacy has an option to disable this quest. I can only asdume it works, if all else fails, though it's more treating the symptom than the problem.

It sounds like you are already part way through the quest? You would need a save from before entering the museam. It sounds like you are still on the part where you need to sleep in the bed to continue the quest. (I can't confirm as I haven't played this mod)

It sounds like you are already part way through the quest? You would need a save from before entering the museam. It sounds like you are still on the part where you need to sleep in the bed to continue the quest. (I can't confirm as I haven't played this mod)

seems like i solved the problem. there is indeed and option to disable it in the mcm menu.i didnt even know about the mcm menu but that is definetly quite usefull with a few mods, thank you ! :D
oh and the quest can be disabled because it is a rather "scary" one and not because of people having issues with it ( at least that's what the menu says).

Thank you guys, without you all i would probably have given up and stopped playing skyrim for a while

I know this is an old post and I do not mean to necro this topic but I had a similar problem and my problem was fixed by dismissing my companions. The companions had scripts that would run at the same time as the scripts for this LOD quest. They conflicted and would CTD after sleeping in the bed. The CTD would occur after waking and seeing the place on fire. If anyone has this same problem, try to identify what other mods are running scripts at the same time that may conflict. In my case is was the current followers. I had Vilja and Sofia with me at the time. Dismissing them or making them wait at another location prevented this script conflict.

Hope this helps others that may experience the same CTD event.

OMG. You got it! Incredible. I just walked out of the museum, told Serana to wait there, and it solved the ctd! Thank you so much! Every thread I scoured before finding your answer was just 3 pages of people ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ up their saves and starting the game over from scratch. :lovelovelove:

If your problem is still going, try going to your NMM and reinstalling Legacy of the Dragonborn. If you can move around before the CTD, quicksave and go directly to the journal. It worked for me.
