ps.
if you dont report it to Bethesda screw up in so many quest they will never be fixed.
In wich case, you could set it as active and type "ShowQuestTargets" in the console. This should give you it's ID.
Go back to your normal save, and type "SetStage <Quest ID> <Stage number>"
Maybe that'll work? Or maybe failed quests can't be revived?
Have you tried going to that cave? Maybe entering it would revive and complete the quest?
Also just wondering, how do you fail a kill quest? Did those trolls become immortal somehow? Did they assend to a higher plain of existance? :P
On a personal note, I really wish they didn't put that quest in the list though, at least not when you're still progressing through the companions main questline. I had it and because I really wanted to progress through the companions I didn't put it off, but it was a real pain to do at lvl5. One of those Trolls would have been hard enough as is, but two was just a nightmare. Had to use a combinaton of shouts and glitches to kill them. :/
And I did search for help on forums, and I was told to just ignore it till I was higher lvl. In hindsight I'm glad I didn't follow that advice, given your current situation...
If Bethesda fixed quests, wouldn't it mess up mods? I seriously doubt they fix quests or pretty much anything for that reason. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt that.
