Companion job bug
So i picked up a quest from Aela called "Animal Extermination" which required me to kill a frost troll in Steepfall Burrow and i thought "meh, i'll do that later" which turned out later to be a mistake. I did some other quests and eventually it came up "Failed -.-" but i didnt care too much about it until sometime later when i asked Aela which is my current companion to give me a new job in which she says i already have a job for her. So to conclusion i picked up Animal Extermination quest from Aela, failed it and can't get a new job from any of the Companions. I've tried using the console commands but so far from what i've used from the intel i've gathered it hasn't worked. Pls Help!

I have a similar problem. I finished the quest from Farkas and was asked to return in awhile. WHen I retuerned no one was responding except Aela. She geve me an animal extermination quest to kill ten ice wolves. I ahjd a similar problem with another character. It seems the quest line is broken.

first of all report it to Bethesda, then goolge wiki skyrim questname then look for command to next step do save game so you can go back to current saved game if you screw it even more up.

ps.
if you dont report it to Bethesda screw up in so many quest they will never be fixed.

Can you load an earlier save where you still had that quest in your quest log?

In wich case, you could set it as active and type "ShowQuestTargets" in the console. This should give you it's ID.

Go back to your normal save, and type "SetStage <Quest ID> <Stage number>"

Maybe that'll work? Or maybe failed quests can't be revived?

Have you tried going to that cave? Maybe entering it would revive and complete the quest?

Also just wondering, how do you fail a kill quest? Did those trolls become immortal somehow? Did they assend to a higher plain of existance? :P

On a personal note, I really wish they didn't put that quest in the list though, at least not when you're still progressing through the companions main questline. I had it and because I really wanted to progress through the companions I didn't put it off, but it was a real pain to do at lvl5. One of those Trolls would have been hard enough as is, but two was just a nightmare. Had to use a combinaton of shouts and glitches to kill them. :/

And I did search for help on forums, and I was told to just ignore it till I was higher lvl. In hindsight I'm glad I didn't follow that advice, given your current situation...

If Bethesda fixed quests, wouldn't it mess up mods? I seriously doubt they fix quests or pretty much anything for that reason. Maybe I'm wrong, but I doubt that.

No it only fix what Bethsda should have done aged ago in old skyrim, and now we have SE and nothing has been fixed, its same old quest bugs that modder has fix the problem if they dont use unofficial mod, and sense when has it been modder job to fix what bethesda should have done.
