Whiterun gone and battle music on loop
I finished the Stormcloak quest that takes over Whiterun and since completing the quest, Whiterun's map icon is gone and battle music won't stop playing.
I've reloaded the game, waited for days, slept, fast traveled via carriage to Whiterun, and completed several other quests since but nothing's worked so far. Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you but Whiterun is still missing. I've also realized that Jorrvaskr is locked and requires a key ):
I've done several other quests hoping to fix it but nothing so far.

Did you listen to the whole speech at the end of the battle? If you haven't, this can cause issues. Sounds like the Whiterun portion of the campaign hasn't been completed yet. Pretty sure you have to hang around Ulfric and Galmar for a bit after the battle to "complete" it. Been a while since I was a Stormcloak.

Ultimately, you may have broken it beyond fixing. If that doesn't work, check the Wiki for the proper quest stages and see if setting it to Whiterun being finished helps. If not, prior save time!

Whiterun Icon Missing Fixed!

I know this has been on the forum with lots of advice but I wanted to post the fix that worked for me.

I joined the Stormcloaks and played Battle for Whiterun. While inside Dragonsreach I accepted the surrender from Jarl Balgruuf and received the message to report back to Ulfric in Windhelm. I exited through Dragonsreach front door and then fast travelled to Windhelm. I spoke to Ulfric and he gave me the option to buy Hjerim. As far as I was concerned, this completed Battle for Whiterun and the quest in my journal moved down to the completed section.

I then fast travelled to Riften and spent many hours completing quests in that area. It was several days of gameplay before I wanted to fast travel back to Whiterun, and this was the first time I noticed the missing icon. In fact, the icons for Whiterun Stables and Dragonsreach were also missing. I fast travelled to a nearby farm and walked into Whiterun. On the way I saw that the carriage and driver were also missing and there were no horses stabled at Whiterun Stables. Inside Whiterun I couldn't enter The Bannered Mare as it was locked.

I tried various methods, which I hoped would fix the issue, but none worked.

I drew a deep breath and decided to lose 3 to 4 days of gameplay and go back to a previous save, before I started Battle for Whiterun.

This time I was careful to complete each step of the quest slowly and make sure I followed the quest directions to the letter. I only moved forward after each quest stage was marked as completed in my journal. Once Jarl Balgruuf surrendered and I was given the instruction to report back to Ulfric, I walked all the way back to Windhelm without using fast travel. After speaking to Ulfric and leaving Palace of the Kings, I was pleased to see that all the missing icons were back in place. I fast travelled to Whiterun Stables and the horses were back, as was the carriage and driver. Inside Whiterun, everything seemed to be back to normal. I breathed a huge sigh of relief!

I cannot be certain which exact step was the eureka moment, but I have a strong suspicion that walking all the way out of Whiterun, and not using fast travel, was the fix I needed. So my advice to players, who have lost the Whiterun map marker after Battle for Whiterun, is to replay it from when you are first given the quest in Windhelm, and not use fast travel straight after the battle is won.

Good luck!
