Can I become a vampire without siding with the volkihar in dawnguard?
I've played the werewolf so many times but I never really liked the volkihar either. Can I still turn my wife into a vampire and get some of the quest loot?

Yes, you can get vampirism from a random encounter but you will not be welcome in the Dawnguard as a vampire.

The best way, without mods/cheats, is to complete Dawnguard DLC, then have Serana turn you.

You will have the chance of Seran turning you while you are on the quest to find her Mother.

You can't turn wife or husband into vampire unless you joined volkihar that gave you quest, moot, it's just not make any wife or husband into stronger or gave them ability, all they got is some face changed. As for Vampire Lord, if you plan to do vampire lord form full time, it's better off join volkihar to make stronger or better, but even that, it's just not that powerful, it's might be fun, but weak in high level, I think because of no armor rating, you could cast armor spell, but that don't last long, and get tried of recast again and again, reform again and again. So if you want whole vampire better by make spell armor last longer, or that gave vampire armor rating to stay alive in combat melee in high level, best seek mod out there to improve enjoyment of playing as vampire.

False.

I am currently progressing through the Dawnguard just fine as a vampire. I became a vampire before I started the Dawnguard questline and I have not once been questioned about being a vampire. I am however also using the Better Vampires mod in addition to a Hybrid vampire/werewolf mod so that might be making a difference. Although Serana did recognize that I was a vampire when I woke her up so the whatever flag that tells the quest you are a vampire is flagged. The game just doesn't really seem to care.

Normal vampire and vampire lord is not same, and he did said without mod, but I do recalled they won't talk to me when I was a vampire, mind you, I playing without mod at a time.
