How To Get Mod Index Number?
I'm using the additemmenu mod. For some reason It won't automatically add the items neeeded to my inventory. The mod page had the id number for the item but for that to work you need the mod index number. I use mod organizer and it is supposed to show the mod index number and it does. But once in game the mod index numbers are different. I confirmed this because I had issues with NPC's added by a mod. Using the console and clicking on the npc's will show me their id that contains the mod index number. But when I look in Mod organizer for that number it's associated with a mod that does not add or affect NPC's. So trying the index number that's listed with the additemmenu mod does not work. So how else can you get the index number?

There's a mod for what's basically a console command? (player.additem ref x)

Ok, well if you know where to find your load order, the position the mod you are getting the item from replaces the xx in the id. So for example if it comes from a mod seventh in your load order, it begins with 07.

If you don't know where to find your load order, LOOT will sort it out and allow you to see it (and paste it on these forums when needed). I know vortex and MO2 sort load orders using a built in version of LOOT.

I know how it works. I'm saying the load order in game is different than what is says outside of game. Loot gives me the same index numbers as mod organizer which I have already confirmed are not the same as in game.

For example an NPC added by immersive patrols. If I open console and click on the npc it'll give me an id something like 23d76b5(I made that up) 23 is supposed to be the index number. But according to mod organizer the mod with index number 23 is immersive weapons. A mod that does not add any NPC's. I know i'm clicking on the NPC and not another object because I have a mod that expands console info. So it'll tell me the name of the object or NPC it'll tell me what plugin the object came from.

So the index numbers are different in game. I can't figure out the in game index number of a mod unless I have an item or npc added by the mod that i can click on. But if I don't have an item or NPC then I have no way to get the index number. Is there any other way

Open the console and type help <nameofitem>, and you will get a wall of text including the id

So for dragon elder scroll you would type:
Help Dragon Elderscroll

You may want to try with something that's one word for your first try.
