How do I find my lost follower?
So, I loaded my last save file and my follower was missing.
-For some reason, she's missing on every auto save file, but when I played she was there
-She's not dead, she's essential, and I didn't "fired" her
-As a test, I tried getting another follower, but he said I still had one
-I went to the spawn place and didn't found her.

Is there a command to put me close to an NPC, like "coc xxxxx"?

This is part of Update.esm, where Followers will warp to you as long as they've not been dismissed. There was an issue where they got permanently stuck in Shalidor's Maze and Broken Oar Grotto and were lost forever, even if you made them Wait and then chilled for a week somewhere else. You got the message "Your follower gets tired of waiting and heads home." but they would never leave those areas.

Hence, Update included a "warp to player" script that means you never lose them. However, a side effect is that when you're kicked out of Volkihar Castle for refusing Harkon's "gift", the first follower you obtained will warp to the boat ramp, even if you've previously left them somewhere else (i.e. Waiting at Home). Not sure if that happens if you've actually Dismissed them, though. Have to try that.
I always get Jenassa first, since there's no quest involved, and by the time I take Serana home, Jenassa's chilling in my house (UFO "Relax for a while" command). As soon as Harkon gives me the magic boot to the boat ramp, she appears, tells me we're one and the same kind, then proceeds to walk back to Whiterun, so I have to make her Follow me again from that point.

@Dr

What you're describing seems to be unique to your game and UFO. My first follower this game was Faendal who has remained at Lakeview Manor where he's employed as my steward - didn't even show up for my wedding he's so reliable. I've had several followers meanwhile, the latest being Rayya ( someone has to carry my extra stuff ) who has been outside waiting in all the appropriate locations. None of the interim followers which have since been dismissed have ever shown up anywhere other than where I've left them. It has only ever been my current follower.

  • search them in the console with underscores for spaces
  • press enter
  • type "placeatme [the folowers code]" hint: place at me
  • press enter
  • if you did everything right congrats you now have your folower back!

plus always make a save before using the console., just in case you fubar you game by typing something wrong

Sigh.. if your follower is still alive and well then you shouldn't be using placeatme at all which creates a duplicate. You should use: prid refid, enter, followed by moveto player, enter.

There days, one has access to the "Where Are You?" utility which did not exist back in 2017.

Your follower Stenvar is still lost, mate...

PlaceAtMe command creates a COPY of the NPC, follower or object, so what you have now is a clone of your follower. Your original follower is out there somewhere.

The actual console command to move an NPC/follower to you, is the MOVETO comnand.

As explained in this thread[gamefaqs.gamespot.com]..

@veckin said:
To move the player to the npc, type
player.moveto xx
To move the npc to the player, type
moveto player xx

If the npc is dead, this won't work. To bring them back, type:
resurrect xx
Where xx is the reference id of the npc. Don't use the base id

@jaxx0rr said:
to MOVE a npc to your location:

1. open console and select npc with mouse, but ofc you don't know where it is, so type "prid XXXXX" (where XXXXX is npc refId) but ofc you don't know the refid so you can either:
a. save game, load a previous save, select the npc and write down the refid the load ur last save
b. find it here: elderscrolls.wikia.com)
c. type [help "npc name"] without the brackets witch gives you the BASE id and you need to convert that to the refid so that's not really helpful...

you should have some numbers in the middle of the screen

2. type "moveto player" to move npc to your location (will only work if npc is alive, if its not alive first type "resurrect 1")
-or if you want to go to the npc type "player.moveto XXXXX" (where XXXXX is npc refId)

But of course, if your follower is mod-added follower, you don't know the RefId or BaseID.

Thankfully, for such simple needs as finding your follower, you don't need to mess with console commands. What you need is a follower search-n-track mod.

For SE/AE, the following mods also work as an alternative to the old mod "Are You There".

They allow to search-for/tag any named NPC and summon/move-to/trade-with/check-stats/track them (they don't get added as follower). These mods also have a nifty mechanism to create a party and insta-teleport/summon them to player. I use it to find and go to any new mod-added followers, or to teleport directly to a merchant at home.

Where Are You - Lookup And Track Followers and other NPCs:
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/76063

CS Tag N Track SE:
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/14018

The following mod does many of these NPC tricks, but also provides other useful (cheaty) mechanisms for ammos, armors, weapons, books, shouts, spells, perks, potions, ingredients, keys, etc.

Skyrim Cheat Engine:
https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/14018

All 3 mods can be used (haven't noticed any conflicts or issues), and are reliable and working in SE/AE.

For managing followers, there are follower frameworks mods like NFF, EFF, MFF, iAFT, etc., that can surely help.

Get either Vortex or MO2 (Mod Organizer 2) mod management tool from NexusMods.com website, to manage mods.

TLDR: Use Mods to manage followers. and to make your Skyrim experience better and more fun.
