Skyrim Special Edition Error 0xc000007b (already tried everything in solution thread!)
Hello community,

I need your help! I installed the Skyrim Special Edition a couple of weeks ago, but was never able to start it because of error 0xc000007b.
I already tried everything in the current solution thread (https://steamcommunity.com/app/489830/discussions/0/312265473877856791/) but nothing helped so far.

I don't hit the minimum requirements exactly , I see, but shouldn't I get any other error messages but the 0xc000007b?

Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
nVidia GTX 750 TI 2GB
AMD Athlon (tm) II X4 630 Processor 2,80 GHz ("Despite the minimum requirements performs well on even older GPU's and CPU's (e.g. AMD Athlon II X4 630 and Nvidia GTX 650 Ti on medium preset averages around 50-60fps")
6 GB RAM (doesn't hit the minimum requirements)
DirectX 12
VIA Audio
Aureon 7.1 Universe
Resolution 1920x1080

- Skyrim Special Edition without mods and clean installation
- Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 until 2015 (clean and new installation -> solution guide)
- Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 4.0 Refresh (tried to install .NET Framework 4.6.2 but it said my current XNA is "newer")
- All updates for windows and all actual drivers.
- Also the command prompt didn't find any errors.
- can't even install KB2999226 manually, since I have Win 10 it says it's not amde for my op.system

So far the minimum requirements aren't hit, but shouldn't it then give another error message/no error at all but just get a black screen? Since the error 0xc000007b is related to an error with Visual C++?

I hope some of you know of some other solutions i could try (except reinstalling windows, that's the last solution I would try) which aren't listed in the solution thread.

Thanks a lot and have a nice day

Try this solution;
Windows 10 - Origin start up error 0xc000007b

I have been struggling with this for a while now. I only solved it because I could not install VC++ 2010 for a software development IDE. In researching why VC2010 wouldn't install, I discovered that Windows 10 has disabled NET Framework by default.

I enabled this, installed both x64 & x86 VC++2010 and it resolved the issue.

To enable NET Framework in Windows 10, go to your Control Panel > Uninstall a program > Turn Windows features on or off > expand and put a check to any NET Framework you see, typically 3.5 & 4.6. Then reinstall both of the VC++ x64 & x86 for 2010 & 2013.

This FINALY resolved my problem. Hope it helps!

Admin edit: further VC++ information that could cause this error is available in the following topic:

I can verify that Windows Updates will sometimes reset your .net framework.

I followed these instructions now, but it doesn't work for me.
But thank you for this tip!

Ok, another set of good things to check...
http://www.techcrises.com/how-to/how-to-fix-error-code-0xc000007b-in-windows-7-8-8-1/

It is for Win 7 and 8 but it is still valid for Win 10.

Unfortunatly, I already did these steps and they didn't work for me. But never the less, thank you for doing research!
I'll try cmd.exe again tomorrow!

Everything I've found for that error code points to your .net framework being 32 bit not 64... I'm pretty sure CFS is right on track here. You need to get rid of what ever the heck version of XNA is blocking you and reinstall .net 4.6 or the game will not run. I'm afraid it's that simple.

From what I see they aren't supposed to mess each other up, I'm not familiar with why you're getting messages from one in the other.

I tried to deinstall xna framework but if I want to install .net framework 4.6.2 It says a newer version is already installed. I tried the cleanup-tool for net framework, It says the deinstallation was successfull but while installing .net framework 4.6.2 it STILL won't work because of a newer version of NFW...
I'm now trying the repair tool for NFW from microsoft

EDIT: repair tool won't work as well.

Delete C++2015 you have now and reinstall the C++2015 (from windows), x64 section first and if you want the x86 section after, must be in that order.

Already did that, doesn't help.

Right click on the Start button and choose Command Prompt (admin). In the window that comes up type in sfc /scannow to check Windows files. Did update KB3213986 install for you yet?
Vilanye Jan 12, 2017 @ 1:11pm
I did scannow 3 times (cause Microsoft recommended it to do 3 times for all failures to find) but it doesnt find anything and windows update didn't find anything. Tried it multiple times.
I made a reset on Win 10 but I donÄt know yet if it helped so far...

A reset was coming next, even though I did not want to recommend that. Big step and a pain in the ... If this does not fix it we will keep at it.

Thank you all for your time! I want to thank you for your help here although I needed to do a reset on Win 10. You are very kind people <3
The reset fixed whatever problem there was and now I can play.
I wish you the best luck!

With kind regards,
Punkylemon!
