is magic users better now? in old skyrim they were trash
i remember first time i played skyrim years ago. i went mage, never used a sword once. played whole game with spells. 400+ hours worth of time and magick

killing dragons or anything for that matter took forever with destruction magic even tho i was doing max damage with spells

after 100% the game just for fun i equiped a sword, found a legendary dragon. and one shot it with a sword.... my jaw dropped and i was mad i played the whole game as a weak mage. cuz normally it would take 5 minutes to kill a legendary dragon....

so tell me. is magic improved in special edition? or should i just start as a melee toon

Most everything is the same. The only major difference (besides a few cosmetic tweaks) is SE uses a 64-bit engine instead of the old 32-bit one.

My last playthrough was strictly Mage, and I found it to be quite powerful after a while (pretty weak in the beginning). If you spend the right perks points (eg dual casting) and use potions, it can be very powerful. But yeah, as per above comment, it hasn't been changed from oldrim to SSE.

If you download Ordinator: Perks of Skyrim and the Apocalypse: Magic of Skyrim. Those two mods do a good job of balancing out the Mage gameplay and give you some good options. They require a patch to work together but it's fun.

Potions can make everything powerful. You can actually go through the game by only leveling alchemy.

I'm using the Ordinator mod and I also downloaded the Apocalypse mod but didn't install it because I thought it might conflict with Ordinator. How did you get them working together? What patch? Im using Nexus btw

Vanilla magic users are over powered. I never use any magic mods and always find their play through to be very easy.

Over powered???????
My spells are always weak compared to my weapons, even when I try for a spellcasting sorceror type.

In order to get them to work together there is an optional patch file for download on the Apocalypse page. It should say something like Ordinator Compatibility. I haven't had any issues - ordinator works fine and all the spell books, scrolls and spell animations work fine.

I just came on here to post about looking for a magic overhaul mod that worked with Ordinator.

I am always overpowered when I play the cloth wearing mage. I pick Atronach stone which helps with magicka regen vs hostile spells, use wards and stone skin as well.

Doing a play through as a vampire mage wearing only cloth and using no weapons other than those summoned through conjuration. She is now level 30+ and is wrecking anything in her path.

Same went for my level 100 breton mage in the old skyrim game also.

Magic is really badass. It's slower to level up, but much more rewarding. For advanced players though, you have to know at least a little bit about how magic works in the game to get it right. There are plenty of videos on youtube if you're really interested in playing a vanilla skyrim mage playthrough to give you helpful tips and suggestions.

i mean when i played my first play through like 400 hours. i maxed out all magic used highborne and blah blah even when you could go past the tree caps i did many times, and in the end magic was far less supperior to a full smithed out daedric melee set

at least back when i played magic was weak.... i miss when you could go to a spell trainer and make your own spell and how much damage it does.

THOSE were the days of OP magick.

Open console command & Try "player.setav destructionmod 100" that will boost your magic damage. Or just use the creation kit to make your own spells.

NO!! DO NOT DO THIS

Using command console to level skills runs the risk of breaking the game, avoid doing this at all costs.
