Lost all my saves... what gives?
So all these saves were from Skyrim:SE, NOT saves from other versions. Today I loaded up a game and played. Saved it as usual, got off for a few hours, came back and bam. The game can't find any saves to load up.

Edit: resolved. Deleted save from my documents, wasnt saved to the cloud.

can you find it on your save dir? my document > my games > skyrim > save.. something like that.. if you cant find a single file well your save file is gone for good..

I'm not sure how to do that, but I'll figure it out now. if there are, how to I reconnect the files and the game? If not, what might have cause my 3 character save files from deleting. I did maintenance a week ago and nothings been updated today.

open your my document ( C > users > "name" > document > my games > skyrim > save ) if you cant find your save files there (extension .sav) perhaps your antivirus or something else delete it.. My solution is always back your save files everytime you want to turn off your pc.. i always done that because i lost my dying light save files too thanks to avast.

I figured out what happened. I cleaned out my documents, downloads, music, pictures, etc folders because I dont save anything there. My games have their own drives, as well as my other stuff. So when I deleted it, i deleted my saves. WHY does skyrim save everything there? My other skyrim games don't save anything to those folders.

Did you just delete or permanently delete? If the former, search in your recycle bin.

Most games have their savefiles on documents folder "My games" folder. You shouldn't delete stuff without knowing exactly what you are deleting, you can try use a program to recover the files you deleted, like recuva or something. But didn't you upload the saves here on steam with the steam cloud saves? Mine uploads the saves each time I leave the game so I can access it on my other devices.

You can try using this free program to recover your deleted files.

Also, FYI Skyrim is not the only game which saves to Documents. There's quite a few that do.

Also you might be able to get your saves back if you have cloud sync turned on in your skyrim se on steam.

Almost all modern games save outside their own file structure, it makes transfering/backing up saves a lot easier.
God knows how many other game saves you deleted in 'my documents'

I checked, for me the new Skyrim:SE is the only one that does. My other skyrim: legendary edition did not and neither do any of my other steam games.

I usually check where files get saved, but I just recently bought this version of skyrim and didn't check it this time because I never have a problem with saves. Right now it's the only one missing saves.
