1. Open cities is a crappy mod. Lots of people use it but it's buggy and conflicts with so many things. Maybe it works fine on your build but just a heads up anyway.
2. If you installed mods like Open cities after you started a new game, that could be your problem. Always start fresh when you install new mods. You can potentially clean your save file but it's hard to do and it's not guaranteed.
3. Antivirus applications are the worst. Get rid of it. Uninstall your A/V and disable windows defender. You don't need any of it. All you need is a firewall with a good policy. Odds are, you rantivirus is treating your save files as a virus and while you're saving, the A/V is deleting it possibly causing a crash.
You can also check your windows logs for details on the crash but it may not be entirely helpful.
+1 for this still, had a ton of mods in my load out, after awhile i started to CTD, removing Open cities saved my file
Someone get this guy a medal, please! This worked like no other of all suggested fixes.
Cheers.
Fantastic fix thank you!
Doesn't matter if you running 200 mods or 20. There is a mod (or more) that breaks your game.
I ran into the same/a similar issue today where even trying to make a new regular save made my game CTD. Current save was clean, no dirty mods, mod order was sorted with LOOT, etc. so I was wondering wtf was going on and this fixed it. Ty so much for posting this.
EDIT: Nvm, I managed to save successfully twice (One regular save, then on quicksave right after) then the issue popped up again. :/

Works for me with an i9 and 32gb RAM. Before reading this thread, however, it didn't have the PageSize entries... and I was getting CTD on saves after a certain point even after cleaning the previous save.
If you are having a CTD on saving and are unable to determine the reason, DO NOT start changing Papyrus.settings - that is rarely the real solution, and usually causes more harm in the long run.
With a CTD on save problem, you need to start your own thread.
As an aside, one of the more frequent causes of this issue is the removal of mods midplaythrough - a major do not do. And cleaning saves DOES NOT WORK! Saves CANNOT be fixed! Forr full information, see:

1. Load an older save (as long as it doesn't have CTD on save glitch, then load it)
2. Create a NEW save (through pause menu)
3. Type in console command player.kill
4. Load your latest save (the one that had CTD glitch)
5. Type in console command player.kill
6. Try saving (I usually just use quicksave)

I have used this method many times. If you do it right it works like a charm and you lose no progress.
1. You can’t save when dying!
2. You can’t save cause your game crashes!!!!
Please explain how to do the method.
As for the papyrus solution I tried it and it also did not work.
