Completely missing several sounds
Okay, first time using the discussions page but alas, i am missing about 90% of game noise and music it is a recurring thing and is incredibly infuriating as all combat happens completely silently as well as all music in game being gone, my game is decently modded with 79 mods and i have attempted to fix it with several sound and/or audio overhauls and have tried listening to the game's audio through both my tv's speakers and my headphones (and a non surround sound headphones) and i have no idea what to do as searching for this error just results in dozens of articles about the apparently bad compression, i would love to hear the difference between the old version and the new but alas, no game sounds.

Also the sound was missing pre modding aswell.

To summarize missing sounds include:
Combat Noises (grunts, sword impacts, sheathing/unsheathing weapons, arrow releases (not the impacts(okay maybe half of arrow impacts are audible)))
Shouts
Music (Bard Music Unaffected)
Any and all cut scene noise (excluding ambient audio and voices)

I have exactly same problem, the game is now unplayable and not sure what to do. Everything was working fine month ago when I was playing it for the last time

Try turning off your mods, with 79 of them I'm pretty one of them is causing conflicts.

I have same problem even when I uninstalled mods (only 23), if anybody has the solution it would be appreciated.
i had the problem with a fresh install even before i started modding the special edition

Srsly try installing the game on C drive that may help.

Well, the sounds files are either missing (in which case verify game cache integrity I suppose?) or they don't play for some reason.

One way to find out would be to install an audio overhaul mod (like Immersive Sounds Compendium) and see if the new sounds work or not.

i have tried multiple sound overhauls and they do not help and my c drive has 1.3 Gb of space left so thats a no go, also i have tried the volume i almost blasted my ears out listening to the wind in skyrim hoping to hear a swish from a sword in there

Its because the game is not installed on your c drive, i have the same problem, and orignal skyrim had the same, but the original skyrim fixed it but it seems to have carried over to the newest version. if you want more information heres a link to where i found out why https://beta-community.bethesda.net/topic/5191/missing-sounds-for-some-users-when-install-to-drive-other-than-c-aka-external-drive-bug

I had tried 2 methods to fixing my missing combat sounds problem and that didnt work 100% for me, also i didnt have space to completely move my game to the c: drive folder.

SO I MOVED THE Sound folder located in Skyrim game/Data do my C: Drive and then made a link extension from there back to my skyrim Data folder.

IT FINALLY WORKED GUYS!!!!!!!!!

*1. First of download and install Link Shell Extension which can be found here http://schinagl.priv...lextension.html
*2. Navigate to your Skyrim/Data folder and look for a folder named ''Sound'' Copy this and paste it somewhere on your C: drive.
*3. Delete ''Sound'' Folder from the Data folder
*4. Go back to where you copied "Sound" on your C: drive. Right click on it and you should see an option that says "Pink Link Source". Click that.
*5. Go back to your Skyrim/Data folder. Right click anywhere and choose "Drop As" and then "Symbolic Link" You will see your Sound folder with a shortcut symbol. You know it works when you do.

very helpful if you don't have space in your C: drive but want to fix the sound prob

THIS REALLY HELPED ME.

thank you to the other people in the posts below. try wichever helps you better

(source u/afflicto https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrimmods/comments/4qmkt0/help_combat_sounds_disappear_after_modding/ )Basically, go to "Skyrim/Data/Unofficial Skyrim Legendary Edition Patch.ini" and remove the line that says "uMaxSizeForCachedSound=4096" in the [Audio] section.

(source Crimsonrider https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/6575951-skyrim-no-sound-effects-fix/)The fix is simple, we're gonna move the sound files to the main drive and create a symbolic link.*1. First of download and install Link Shell Extension which can be found here http://schinagl.priv...lextension.html*2. Navigate to your Skyrm/Data folder and look for a file named Skyrim - Sounds.bsa. Copy this file and paste it somewhere on your main drive.*3. Delete Skyrim - Sounds.bsa from the Data folder*4. Go back to where you copied Skyrim - Sounds.bsa on your main drive. Right click on it and you should see an option that says "Pink Link Source". Click that.*5. Go back to your Skyrim/Data folder. Right click anywhere and choose "Drop As" and then "Symbolic Link" You will see your sounds file with a shortcut symbol. You know it works when you do.
