Killing Ancano impossible...

My character was at level 37 when I decided to resume the Mages quest line. I just needed to bring back Orthorn's stolen books to resume. Problem came when I needed to kill Ancano, If the guy hit me with just one bolt he cleared out all of my magica and life force. I repeatedly closed the Eye and attacked him when it was closed. Nothing in my magic or mudane weapons even nicked him. Anything I tried simply failed to register. I ifnally consoled god mode and then tried everything without the problem of trying to keep myself alive, too. Failure. Has anyone else had the same problem? Is this a bug?

Edit: So powerful are Ancano's bolts, I find myself bouncing off several walls and frequently the ceiling..

You may not be closing the orb all the way. I've had that problem. Either way he's a pain in the ass. I constantly shout him into walls before i have to fight him lol.

You are supposed to let the room fill up with those magic anomallies, leave the room and close the gate behind you. The anomallies will kill him.

Hmmmm... there were plenty buzzing around, But frankly, he was doing them in with alacrity, and no skin off his nose. I'll go back and see if I can just le him do himsalf in. I'll get badk to you.

Edit: OK. No go. If I can do in the anomalies with a single blast, how can they possilbly be suffciiently strong to do in Ancano? He wipes up me and them like TP.

I am certain that most of my attacks are made when the Eye is closed, because when it opens, I'm dead..

You use your staff on the orb and destroy ancano literally at the start of the battle easily he will die fast to almost anything without his damage resistances. Thats what happened to me last time anyway i killed him, just used staff on orb for while and killed him in 1-2 hits even with combat mods on.

Ha anyone else ever attempted to kill him at level 37 or above? Does the difficulty increase with level?

I beat him with a companion while just attacking the Orb with the staff. And dodging his sightline of course.

Everyone I brought in with me, Anum-La (from 3dnpc) and Barbus, were parallyzed along with Tofdir at the start. How dd you manage that?

Hmm. Well i used a custom NPC, so theres that.

This battle was worse than any of the other bosses I'd fought in Skyrim! And I'd already done the Main Quest, Dawnguard, and Dragonborn. So yes, I was at a fairly high level. But my problem wasn't that Ancano was killing me; it was that he kept running behind the pillars and I couldn't target him quickly enough. Then he'd dash back to the orb and open it again!

I think how I finally managed to do him in was to conjure a companion of some sort. Ancano then had to hide from two of us, and I was able to corner him that way. He went down easily then.

As it turns out, there is a bug that will make Ancano invincible. Unfortunately, none of the reasons why apply in my case.

I guess I'm starting over again at Helgun.

You can use console commands to kill him for that matter, or atleast try.

I didn't have a real problem with him, sure he hurt me plenty, but i used the staff on the eye, and dodged around the pillars, think i might have put a paralyze potion on my mace, but once i landed a hit he couldn't get away. had to re try it a few times, but he was very killable and not that hard. it was all about timing.

but use CC's to kill him, if you want to, bugs happen, and the game doesn't care if you use them, you still get achievments.

Certainly the console should work. If a simple "kill" command fails, then he's still set as essential, in which case he can be made mortal with:

setessential 1E7D7 0

The golden Book Of The Living opens with a HISS. Jonathan holds it tight as Evelyn quickly turns the heavy gold pages looking for something. Evelyn turns to faces Ancano and reads an inscription from the golden book:

Evelyn: "Kadeesh mal! Kadeesh mal! Pared oos! PARED OOS!!"

Ancano, feeling no different, lunges at you. In a panic you reach for the sword lying next to you and thrust it at Ancano's chest in a hopeless effort to try buying just one more second of life. You and Ancano both look in shock to see the sword piercing through Ancano's chest, its tip emerging from his back red and angry.

Evelyn: "It made him non essential."
