Skyrim SE Not displaying Saved Games and Not Loading Last Save
I was playing Skyrim SE when I left my home (Lakeview Mannor) I fast travelled to riften but the game crashed, when I restarted the game and clicked continue it displayed the loading screen with the skyrim logo and the loading music but sat there for over 5 minutes with no change, I exited the game and restarted; this time choosing to load from a specific file but it will not display any of my save game files, When I check the directory in My Documents the save games are all there and if I copy my most recent save to the standard skyrim it wont load and displays an error stating the save was created in a newer version, but it recognises the saved game exists. I tried deleting my 2 most recent saves assuming that they may be in some way corrupted and therfore having a knock on effect but I still cannot load any saved game.

I have also verified the integrity of the steam files but no change.

Any thoughts folks?

Thanks in advance.

Ok; So I managed to fix this there seems like an issue with one of my saved games so I started a new character and saved the game at the start when you first get freed, I then restarted the game and chose to load at which time my old saved games where there minus the autosave that appears to have been corrupted, I managed to load from a saved game loosing only 15 minutes of game and it appears to be fine now.

The odd thing was I wasn't running any mods at the time.

hmmm, then my question is when u run mods do u use Bethesda.net? or do u not run mods at all?

Well at the time I wasn't and hadn't but have since, but I haven't had the same issue since this one occasion and never since despite using some mods since it happenned. So to conclude, when it happenned I was not nor had I ever run any mods prior to this happening.

ok well to not have the same issue occur when running mods use Nexus Mod Manager when running mods, its more reliable ans safer that way u dont corrupt the game or ur save file

Remember old Rim is 32 bit and new Rim SE is 64 bit. Same game name but different code. You can not mix files or mods with either verson. 32 bit files and mods must stay in 32 bit game and vise-versa.

have you tried starting a new character and seeing if you can load their save files, I know it takes an age but I used that to test my game files and when restarting and choosing to load games I was able to choose which character save files to load and managed to load an older save on my main character and lost only a little while of game time.

Hope it gets sorted buddy :)

them sorry dude, I'm out of ideas unless, try deleting a saved game, an old one and then restart steam and see if the cloud restores it, if it does then disable the cloud and delete the most recent save file and see if that works.

I know I am coming in way late to this discussion... but I have had a similar problem and discovered a solution....

SOLUTION: I went to main menu and Selected SHOW ALL SAVES and they did show up and I could successfully load my last save and I saw all others. Problem was solved for me.
I should mention that I did get the mod warning about achievements were disabled.

My Scenario
I was fine tuning my mods in game. I had selected some player homes and verifying that they worked and did not conflict with each other … around Riverwood… lots of choices and many overlaps.
I had finally decided on the ones I was going to keep; got the various mods disabled/enabled as needed within Vortex… I had Vortex deploy; verified with LOOT and saved my sequence. I “fixed” my last save file with ReSaver and re-saved. I loaded game and spent time investigating the various areas and all looked good. I had Auto Save on for saving between areas so had several of those saves and had saved 2 or 3 times with the numbered saves (new save). I also used Quicksave a few times. I did notice that I was stuck on save game ID 116 for some reason. That is because the last save shown was 115; so when I saved it simply incremented by one. 7 of them to be exact with the various save types I created.
I was at a point where I wanted to try another path; but when I tried to reload I could not find a half a dozen saves that I knew I had made; these were the last saves…all prior seemed to be there. The saves missing were in the last 30 minutes. I investigated my save files in Vortex and deleted a ton of them (over 50%) because I would never go back that far anyway. I tried to reload and the saves still did not show up. I exited the game and re-entered and selected my “modded” character to pick files from… they were still not listed. I tried one of the older files then saved again and the new file still did not appear on the list. I finally exited the game and re-entered… I did NOT select CONTINUE; I picked LOAD. I then select ALL files. All of my save were there…and you know the rest from above.

My Conclusion
I think we all know the game tracks whether or not we have mods loaded and then disables achievements; which may be overridden by some mods…not sure…doesn’t really matter to me.
Regardless, evidently the game thought some of those saves were modded and some were not and the game only displays saves for the character and mod flag that the game currently thinks you are playing from/with….
The games were there and did not seem to be corrupt but they were just not included within the list because of the save file filter the game was using at the time.
I may have confused it by my cleaning the save file or just because I switched mods (disable and enable all at once which I heard can have undesirable side effects) or maybe something is working differently with the mod change override to enable achievements or the way the game interprets (or doesn’t) that modding flag.

I hope this will help someone someday to relieve a little frustration when the game does NOT perform the way you/we think it should…grin
