Are you missing any dependancies? say skse64, fnis, useep etc.
Have you checked your load order?
And... is it an oldrim mod or a new/ported sse?
And what seems to be the issue? Is your hair clipping through your helmet? Is Markarth banners brown instead of green? Does paper rolls glow in the dark? Are briarhearts missing their heart in their chests? etc etc.
And why do you want to manually install it? If you've downloaded it just point NMM to the 7z/zip file, activate and it should just install everything in the right place.
Would be super awesome to all information without needing to twist arms.
Does it show up in the launcher?
Is it activated in the launcher?
Did you edit SkyrimPrefs.ini?
Does the mods show up ingame under Main Menu, then open the MODS menu, then press T to open the Load Order menu, then activate your mods from there.
It should show up there. Otherwise I'd advice to use NMM/Mod Organizer/Wrye Bash to keep clear of that creation club.

VERY IMPORTANT if you wish to successfully mod your game
It also connects to the nexus and checks for updates to your mods (no downloading, just a '!' at the end of the mod file info alerting you that you can get an update.
Honestly, it's so smooth to add/remove/replace/update mods with it I feel there's no reason to muck about manually and play by bethesdas silly rules.
Read the pinned topic, do what it says, using the tools that it says, and ignore the people who tell you otherwise (they either have no clue or are deliberately trying to give wrong info).
Care to elaborate why NMM is bad?
What exactly in my statement was bad advice?
