SkyrimSE.exe just got detected as malware by my antivirus.
I have not played the game in several months and I haven't even launched the thing. What gives?

Your anti-virus is ♥♥♥♥ and should be uninstalled.

Maybe so but it's a bit odd that Skyrim of all things out of the blue suddenly gets flagged as malware when I haven't even touched the thing in forever, isn't it?

What AV are you using?
Norton or macfee?

That would only happen on garbage AV software. So it isn't as odd as you think.

Trust your anti-virus and uninstall this virus.

I am aware of false flags. I've used comodo for several years and it's been fine, not changing that now. This is the first time something like this has ever happened. Not really bothered anyway.

False Positives...or you are using a cracked exe file.

I own the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game you moron. It's in my library. Do not start accusing me of being a pirate. I've had it since day one because I owned the Legendary Edition of Skyrim.

Just a false positives lot of AV's have issues seen it with other games too. It is probably something in the virus definitions that's at fault often with a new update it's over.

But that very reason is exactly why I would be suspecting that my PC has been compromised. Why did your anti-virus decided to flag Skyrim out of the blue? You said yourself that you didn't touch a thing. So why now? Why didn't it say anything when you've installed the game?

This reflects poorly on your AV
I'm pretty sure it's just a false positive. My Comodo has started flagging SkrimSE.exe as malware after its most recent update.
SpeedFreak1972 Nov 14, 2017 @ 2:56am
indeed as said virus definitions can do that.
MagadaDaSkolin Nov 14, 2017 @ 4:02am
New SkyrimSE force itself into program and add thing to its code.(cuz of creation club version change garbage) Ofc it is recognized as a virus by any good anitivirus(dr.web kaspersky or comodo)

If anitivirus would not scream at new SkyrimSE that would be a surprise(or that mean that antivirus is total garbage - ild skyrimSE didnt force themselfes into game code so they didn't be recognized as virus )
