get rid of horse
Anyone found a way to dismiss a horse? I don't normally use them, but I rode Shadowmere once, and it's been like Rose, the creepy girlfriend from Two and a Half Men sitcom, who follows Charlie everywhere. If I fast travel, it follows. I want to get rid of it. I've tried googling for a mod or cheat code, but haven't found anything so far.

Kill it, and it should respawn at that pool you first got it from. Don't use it again and you shouldn't any trouble.

Use Arvak instead. Insta horse. Disappears when not wanted.

You will have to return Shadowmere to where you summoned him near the entrance to the Brotherhood's den. Personally I prefer Arvak myself because he just automatically disappears when you dismount and leave him.

Hmm... animal husbandry the Dark Brotherhood way.

Shadowmere felt like a Brotherhood prank played on rookie stealth assassins - guaranteed to blow their cover as soon a they fast-travel to anywhere perilous.

I prefer summoned horses although I haven't had good luck with getting companions to ride them. They seem to have a habit of mounting but when I start riding they dismount and chase on foot I have no idea why.

My soon-to-be-released Improved Housecarls and Hirelings mod takes care of that issue. They ride their owned horse when you ride, they dismount when you do, their horses stay near where they were dismounted, and will go home if you ride yours while their owner is indoors and not actively following you.

I don't think I'll be able to get them to engage in mounted combat, however.

For me, if I ride some other horse, the one I want to get rid of takes it as a dismissal and goes back to wherever they came from. Summon Arvak and ride him for a minute, then the other horse(s) should stop following you.
