ONE MORE THING:
It can be confusing to determine whom to listen to on these forums, especially for someone new. In the pinned topic Helpful Links and References, see Section 6, Miscellaneous - Reliable Forum Regulars, for a list and explanation.
Prowler's profit, while largely useless is pretty insane. I used it ran through Bleak Falls with nothing and left with around 40 gems.
There is a mod on nexus that allows you to skip the quests mostly, I believe that it cuts it down to 12 quests total. The mod is called no thieves guild grind.
This does work, agreed. I tried it last night and all is Ok. But I went back and re-loaded a previous save as you miss the quests for expanding influence of the guild in the four major cities. You also miss the fun of the Summerset Shadows quest, and some others that help you with No Stone Unturned.
What worked well for me:
Delvin's "The Numbers job" quest works easily for this.
Start the quest from Delvin, get the quest id with showquesttartgets (TGRFO)
setstage TGRFO 50
Then talk to Devin and it completes
Repeat until the special job quest comes up - do that and keep going with Delvin until you're done.
It doesn't take long, and removes a lot of the grind.
If they give you one you´ve already done, reload quicksave and ask again. Keep track with good old pen and paper. I always go for the numbers job. It works fine, and one can do it while doing other stuff since you end up visiting the necessary cities anyway.
This is the mod I have used for the past couple years. It works fine.
If you do not want to do any thieving quests, do not join the guild.
Atleast some people had the decency to actually help OP... hate people like that on the internet
It's not about life lessons, it's about warning them not to do stuff and what the consequences are for doing so. Cause they are the kind of people who will break their game, overwrite their save file, 40 hours later come to realize how much their game has been screwed up and then come to the forums to complain. It's a cycle we've seen a thousand times now, better to warn them beforehand then to tell them to restart later on.
Look i'm all for experimenting with the console to understand it, but most people think they understand it while screwing up their game. The best way to understand it is to just try it out... on a second save file you care nothing about, see what the consequences are along the way. It's how i figured out pretty much every console command in the game, what to do, what not to do, none harming side effects (like companions quests showing 2 quest markers, 1 real and 1 fake), but also complete game breaking ones. That save file had so much stuff going on it was hilarious, but again, that was done on purpose to check things out, which not a whole lot of people are willing to put any time into. Those people should take advice like that and most of the time they gladly will.
The big thing here is if you can do it WITHOUT console commands do that it's a far safer bet.
What I really hate on the internet are the people who don't have a clue and no experience, and because they don't know, they cause other people to bork things - and don't care, because they are not the ones who will be helping people to fix the mess that they caused.
Which, of course, is the reason for my post #16
