I never spoke to her nor agreed to get the scroll for her yet the quest runs as though i had. If i don't give her the scroll she wants, how long will she remain an impromptu follower?

I think she is going in there if you agree to help her or not.

I have never tried to keep the scroll. I suspect you will have to kill her to keep it.

But let us know what happens if you do.

She appears inside high gate ruins and has seemingly slain several draugr thingies

But she could be a vampire and that scroll could tell them how to find Serana, and her 'family' might be the volkihars... if we keep the scroll, she might never be led to that tomb and maybe the vamps will never destroy vigil of stendar's home base?

She didn't follow me when i left the vicinity of high gate ruins... just to be sure i gave her the scroll and then searched her body via pickpocket and then after killing her.. no scroll can be found on her person after giving it to her...
