Load times suddenly became far too long
I installed the game a couple weeks ago, and was playing for the first week or so without any issues. One day the loading times just shot through the roof. Even getting to the main menu takes 3-5 minutes. Meanwhile, loading screens that used to take a few seconds now take up to 10 minutes.
In-game there started to be a lag that became impossible to ignore. It started with sounds, I would be walking, then the footsteps sound would stop while I was still moving, after 10 seconds or so it would come back, making the sound like I had just landed after jumping. It would then work normally for a minute or so, then it would happen again. Drawing weapons often would take 5 or 6 seconds as well.
I only had 12 mods installed, but I figured one of them was the problem, so I uninstalled all of them, but the problem continued. So I uninstalled the game, re-installed it, but nothing changed. Finally, I uninstalled Steam, re-installed it, then re-installed the game and still nothing has changed.
System performance isn't an issue, my computer is more than capable of running the game on the highest graphics settings, even though I toned them back specifically so I wouldn't have to worry about lag or loading times.

So I'm out of ideas now. It just seems odd that the game would work fine for the first week or so, and then suddenly become unplayable even after a full re-install with no mods. Haven't added any hardware or software to my computer recently, and I haven't been having any issues outside of this game.

Any ideas?

Specs? Sounds like your hardware is finally dying. Not save bloat for sure, that should only affect loading save game not the game starting up.

Try verify SSE?

So, this is getting really strange. Tried verifying the integrity, and left my computer for a while to let it work. Came back an hour later and it was only at 18%. I decided to try cancelling it and starting again, but my computer just turned itself off. No error message or anything, it just shutdown. Then without me doing anything, it turned back on a minute later, but didn't go through the normal startup, it just came back on right to the desktop and opened Steam.
So that sounds like a hardware issue, but it's just weird that I only see any problems when trying to do something with Skyrim.

It sounds like your computer went into hibernation or sleep mode.

As far as the original problem...

To fix the long load times do the following...

Find the folder with all of your game saves.

Delete all but the last 10 or so.

In Steam DISABLE syncronizing to the cloud.

Download and install "Skyrim Tools SE" from the Nexus.

Run "resaver.exe" and load up your last game.

Hit all of the cleaning options, then hit "save" to save your game overwritting the existing file.

Load up and continue your now quickly loading game.

Delete old saves, and avoid using mods with loose files. Those two things affect load times the most.
