I know there's a mod called "Deadly Bosses of Skyrim" that I was using for a while thinking it would just add a couple tough enemies to the game, but it actually altered areas of the game to accomidate these bosses and then give those bosses unique duplicates of items that you could only get through completing certain quests like dragon priest masks, bloodskaal blade, auriel's sheild, etc. I found this to be distasteful so I deleted the mod, but all this to say maybe something like that happened causing the sheild to be in Shroud Hearth Barrow?
The only mod I have like that adds a bunch of new and different dragons, but I doubt it would have anything to do with finding the shield in a random dungeon. *shrugs* Who knows? I guess I should just count myself lucky and move on.
