same bug in both versions... if dragon souls are getting modded........
avoid mods that shange/use/affect dragon soul.... for this reason........
bug cause by bad player scripting where they forget to properly reference the dragonsouls....
since they edit the main script and not do a script addon...... what causes this bug in the first place.....
main script must be same as befor or it will break game functions...
but an extension is allowed to a script.
so mods with extension script work...
mods that edit main script break the game system....
simple as that....
so if dragon souls broken mostly its cause by the dragonsoul mods where the mod makers made it wrong...
and packaging that script inside the mod package, it will prevent gobal override
and that script is then aviable to that mod and all mods that inherit from it....
Secondly, and I do say this a lot, any mod can affect anything in the game if it is the wrong place in your load order. If you have MO2 or Vortex, use the built in sorting function, otherwise get LOOT and use that to sort the load order (click apply after you sort or it actually does nothing)
okay so resorting didn't seem to work, so onto part one of your post. Just to clarify, do you mean loading a save from before this quest is activated, then disabling the mod right before Throat of the World begins? or an entire new save file?
But first, Eli, if you used a specific mod guide for your build, you should be asking the author of the guide - as they are the one who compiled it and would know if there are any issues. Other wise, the best way of determining what mod is causing a CTD is by following this general outline:

(from PINNED TOPIC Helpful Links and References, Section 5 - General Troubleshooting)
As to the disabling of mods on a current save, there is this - which fully explains the issue:
You CANNOT Remove Mods Mid-Playthrough

Good luck!
Because mods bake their data into saves, so deactivating them doesn't stop the effects of the mod.
See smr's post for some good links to help you
apologies in advance if this seems basic; I shoulda mentioned in my first post that this is my First proper modded PC playthrough of Skyrim, after being stuck on console all this time.
Hrmm, well if it's the 'remove shout cooldown' mod, i've had that installed since day 1 of my playthrough. that would mean i'd need to start an entire new playthrough without that one mod, then can turn it back on after this one quest, correct?
Also as I first mentioned, any mod can affect anything in the game, so make sure you are sorting the load order (either with LOOT or the builtin sorting function of some mod managers)
