Full screen with lower resolution
Day 3 of trying to figure this out. All im trying to do is play skyrim at a lower resolution than that of my computer's native resolution (2160x1440), the reason being is that it runs much smoother in lower resultion and i would like to run it in 1280x720. however, whenever i change the resolution to something smaller, the window itself gets smaller. I even went into skyrimPrefs and changed bFull Screen to 1 and it has done nothing. I also tried the fake fullscreen mod and it didnt do anything. Any help would be great.

Why 720 and not 1080? Should run fine don't you think? Also, you could of just went into Nvidia GeForce experience app and changed the resolution setting. Assuming you have a Nvidia GPU

sorry should've mentioned that i have intel integrated graphics on surface pro 3, and it doesn't matter anything lower than its native resolution. Is there a way to run the game full screen without having to change the computer's resolution to match skyrim's resolution

there's your problem. Intel graphics isn't made for high graphics games, especially in a laptop

Not trying to sound condescending by asking the obvious, but did you unclick windowed mode when changing resolution in options?

Change your display resolution.

Or try windowed borderless.

Or try windowed and maximise.

yes i did try that but it still only runs in native resolution, which is way too laggy.

How do you find the maximize setting

why?

Just change the display resolution on your surface pro 3 while you're playing Skyrim. Set the game to run at the same preferred resolution and then play full screen. It's a temporary fix and you only need to alter the surface pro resolution there after. It's how I, and gazillions of others, play old games like Might and Magic otherwise you end up with a teeny weeny window, ugh..

ez pz, Open your "myDocuments" folder, then open "My Games". you will found an skyrim folder in there. open it. then open "SkyrimPrefs.ini" using notepad. find "bFull Screen" and set value from 0 to 1. next line is your Height and Width. set them to 1280 and 720. Ctrl+S. there you go. fullscreen in any resolution you might need, have fun.

We're going to lock this thread up so it doesn't get necro'd again in the future. Thanks for your understanding.
