Laptops tend to reach max read/write from updates alone. Desktops don't do it as often but can. If you leave you computer on overnight, change the update time to like 4 A.M..
Many programs will create temporary files on your drive when they run. Windows updates will create them as well. No doubt you have your drive stuffed so full that those temp files are filling it up completely. You need to either uninstall something, get a bigger hard drive, or add another one then move some things around. The rule of thumb is that you should leave 10% of your space empty so that there is room for those temp files to be created.
He doesn't mean that his hard drive is full, he's refering to the disk I/O statistic that you can see under task manager.
yeah it went down to 5 percent after about 10 minutes. thanks for the reply, from what you said I'm guessing that tab is basically telling me what is currently processing? before today I've actually been looking for a source to find some basic information as to what these tabs exactly mean, among other things, if you happen to know of a good place to start. also, I'm on an alienware alpha, which from what I understand has laptop hardware , so what you said makes sense. It actually never seems to really be struggling, cpu stays at around 40 with just skyrim running, I end all other tasks before I start playing.

thank you very much
empty %tmp%
all cache garbage gather in there for each users from windows 7,8 versions and 10
there might be like a hell lot of GigaByte of rubbish that might clear up some space and speed up your pc......
depending on when you last deleted stuff in there in worste case you will have 100-300 GB of garbage in there , if not even more......
symptomes old cache can cause:
over all slow pc preformance, black screen, blue screen, error windows when starting program or games, no sound bugs, no images, weird textures, scarpy sound and many more can be caused by haveing %tmp% full with old cache crap that reference to old links that no longer exists, but have not been removed!
only an updated cache is a good cache........
cause if its dated it will cause bad references to no existing data!
