Would killing the emperor in the Dark Brotherhood questline benefit the empire?
So I'm playing through Skyrim for the third time now and am trying to do everything exactly how I want to do it lore-wise and I have done almost every quest and questline, but haven't touched the Dark Brotherhood yet. I am not yet sure whether to destroy them or join them and eventually kill the emperor. Personally, I like the Empire a lot and try to orient my choices on what would benefit the Empire. From what I recall killing the emperor will bring a particular new one in charge. Can anyone speculate on the consequences of that?

Well, if you believe a certain gigantic mod, the death of the Emperor triggers a chain of events that culminates in a Cyrodiilic civil war and, if it weren't for the Dragonborn and friends, a second Oblivion crisis.

did you really have to drag a 4 year old thread up for this?

I can see why someone wants him gone, after all it's partly his fault for pretty much everything that happened during the great war.
The rest of the fault is of who didn't stop him from making bad decisions.

You just made that up. Wanna know how I know? Because Titus Mede II asks you to kill Armand and get revenge on the one who got him killed, he called it justice. Would it be justice to kill the guy who helped you? no.

Kind of a giant hole in that "theory".
Pretty much this, otherwise there would be no reason for Armand to be trying to advance his political agenda.

To do this your best bet would be to research the people Amaund Motierre wants you to kill

Amaund Motierre is the man who hires you to kill the emperor. But before you do that, you need to kill a few other people. What did those people support? Who were they, that they needed to die?

As for Amaund Motierre. He mentions the need for imperial change of policy but never specifically mentions what policies. But he does claim that he'd used the Darkbrotherhood more in the future and that he'd earn lots and lots of gold.
