Do you mean is there a mod that can make essential followers, non essential?
Enemies will never outright kill your followers.
ALL followers take a knee at low HP, when they do enemies see them as a non threat and move on to you.
This greatly helps keep them alive.
However IF while on their knee something else damages them...spells, poisons, traps, missed arrows...they can die if they take enough damage to finish them.
The only exception is essential followers, they take a knee as well but will never die.
Well again they are killable by others...I'm not saying on their knee you have to kill them...I am saying you can walk out of a room you follower is fighting in, and walk back in after the fight is over and find them dead.
What you are asking for is that they dont take a knee and instead fight to the death, right?
You'd be going through followers like mad.
Quite a few are simply garbage, and they are all completely crazy, so they are going to constantly be getting you killed or themselves.
For that to work, which I agree would be nice, the AI would have to be much better...and you'd need them to run away.
Seems you'd need to switch their AI package to cowardly once their HP hit a certain point, or something along that line.
Essential npcs never die.
Protected npcs (which involves quite a few followers[en.uesp.net]) can only die by the player's hand.
If you want to remove the protections from a follower, its easy to make a mod to do it, you cant really remove that from every NPC or you will break your game.
PS Also keep in mind that without protected and essential status, your followers wont get a second chance by "going down". Again, you can mod a way around that problem as well. But without any other mods, your companions will basically commit suicide all the time.
