Follower killed?
Ok I'm a bit confused. I thought followers were set as 'essential' to where they couldn't be killed. And when they are attacked by enemies, they don't die. They only kneel down until they heal up some then get back up. And yet, if I so much as hit them with a firebolt when their health is low, it kills them outright. Why is it that enemies/npc's can't kill my follower, but I can? It's so annoying especially when my follower has a bad habit of running directly in front of me just as I'm releasing a firebolt spell. :-(

all can but serana the harder one if she get hurt she croutches then when health high enugh she fights again or untill you kill all enamys outhers do die sometimes if they are lower lvl followers outher than her need to lvl with you the higher you are their equal untill lvl 50 all npcs stay their you go on so once you get to lvl 50 they do to and then they sometimes harder to kill the followers that is unlike serana she never dies tip underline the vampire follower part AND IF HAVE A SERANA MARRY MOD STEAM WORKSHOP YOU GET A SUMMON SERANA ANYWHERE YOU ARE IN GAME WHERE NORMAL NPC FOLLOWERS CAN NOT GO unless it a follower mod that have summon follower anywhere mod

Most followers go down on a knee and enemies will not attack them anymore but if you hit them accidently or a poison effect is still active they can die.

There are a few essential followers that cannot die.

Since she's my housecarl, is Lidia considered essential to where I can't accidently kill her? I'd rather use a follower that I won't accidently kill all the time. Or is there a listing somewhere's of all the followers and those that can and can't be killed?

All the vaniila followers can be killed by you. Last play through I killed both Uthgerd and Benor as they stepped right in front of me when I was using a firebolt. You can either use AFT (Amazing Follwer Tweaks) which makes followers essential or find a campanion mod that makes that companion or more essential. I like Companions and Follwers mod myself. I also use AFT as any follwer you have, including vanilla follwers, essential.

Nope. Lydia and all housecarls can be killed accidently. They are not essential.

There are a few essential followers that cannot be killed such as Mjoll the Lioness, Derkeethus, Seranna, Cicero, Farkas and the Dark Brotherhood Intiates.

All you need to know about followers:

Or you can just look up the list of vanilla followers that are essential and just use one of them.

The game has been out way too long with far too many sources of information to not simply look something up before spreading misinformation.

I noticed that uthgerd takes hits likens champ, and then when she goes down it's whatever because she always gets up. So when we encountered a particularly difficult group of spiders, I expected no different, except they all charged her and basically ate her in front of me, because they rushed her before I could get close with my greatsword, and when they backed away she was a puddle of blood and sadness on the floor that was carrying like half my loot. I'm pretty sure it was the spider poison that got her but man, it was traumatizing

To the best of my knowledge, among followers, only Serana (And technically Barbas, but he's only a temporary follower) is unkillable. I'm pretty sure even those who are essential to other questlines, like Cicero, have their essential tag removed once they've fulfilled their purpose, which coincidentally is almost always the point at which you can get them as a follower.

Ha, well you can always respawn them with console command. I remember when I first lost Lydia a giant hit her and she flew towards the sky and I was RIP, turns out she went so high she spawned behind me.

No, you can't - not if you want your game to continue working correctly. The game runs a death script whenever named or unique NPCs are killed. That data is baked into the save. From that point on, the game sees them as dead.

Ilja:
"Skyrim runs death scripts to all named characters. Resurrecting them through console does not undo the script. As far as game knows, -character- is dead and remains that way.

Effects for using Resurrect command vary. Some characters may act and talk as usual, but very often - especially with merchants and quest characters - game will get bugged, when it is no longer running scripts to dead characters, but those (as being "resurrected") are trying to cause scripts to run."

AND:

"Problems with resurrect have bee documented far and wide in this forum. You will notice the conflict sooner or later, especially if merchant character dies."

Again there is a list of essential followers....in vanilla.

It has already been mentioned multiple times.

Please at least read the thread before spreading misinformation.

Some followers are marked essential, specifically: Mjoll the Lioness, Derkeethus, Serana, Cicero, Farkas, and Dark Brotherhood Initiates. They cannot be killed by any means — should their health be depleted, they will fall to the ground, and will get up after a certain amount of their health has regenerated.

I have killed Lydia repeatedly. Not on purpose, but she died nonetheless.

Edit: a dragon killed her the first time. She got between me an a target every other time.

that's the thing with lydia...she's always in the way...if she gets herself killed... I count it as a plus and go on without her... I wish the game gave a choice as to have her or not...ya' can't have a say in the matter...she just gets dumped on you whether you want her or not
