Enchants not working
Hey all,

Finaly started to enchant some equipment. Mostly weapons, cannot find decent magic resist atm.
But the enchants on mine bow and one handed seems not to work. I tried to enchant them again but you can clearly see theybare alrdy enchanted. Is this a bug? Or doesnt the enchant always hit his target?

Have you recharged your weapons with soul gems once their charge ran out?

Whether a weapon enchantment "always" works depends on which enchantment you're talking about - paralyse is random for eg, but frost damage isn't.

Enchanted weapons also need to be recharged periodically by using filled soul gems on them. You get more charges as your Enchanting skill rises, or by lowering spell costs for the associated school of magic. Lowering Destruction costs to 0 grants unlimited charges for fire damage weapon enchants, for eg.

You can get an enchantment for a weapon that captures souls within a few seconds before an enemy dies. Make one up and give it to your follower, you'll have a steady supply of them.

There are soulgem veins, in Dwemer realm (the same place crimson nirnroot grows).
Also you can buy the empty ones and go hunting wolfs/skeevers for a supply of affordable recharges (only don't use the weapons you are trying to recharge, that way madness lies).

If you're modding I recommend "acquisitive soulgems" or something like that. It prevents you from filling those expensive black soulgems with petty souls.

You can't fill a Black Soul Gem with a Petty Soul, Black Souls are always Grand. Only humanoids have them.

Black soul gems accept any souls, by default. Older versions of the unofficial patch switch them to "black only", but this was later reverted back to their original Oblivion / Skyrim behaviour.

I have never captured anything but a Black(Grand) Soul in a Black Soul Gem. They won't even work for me on anything other than a humanoid opponent.

Good for you, but don't assume everyone is using the same mods you are.

That's atypical, most people have to be wary or they will find an inferior soul in their black soul gem.

FWIW, get Acquisitive Soul Gems *Multithreaded*, not the older mod without the 'multithreaded' part in the name. Both work, I think, but the newer one (ASGM) works better.

I'm not using any mod that makes changes to Soul Gems.
