How to disable Dawnguard DLC
I have no intention of ever playing this DLC, how come I cannot just disable it? the only way of stopping Dawnguard automatically spawning vampires and killing all townspeople in the game, is to get a mod on nexus, which disables achivements. I mean I can live with that but it's still pretty ridiculous that you can't simply disable it.

I'm not sure how to disable dawnguard but you can add mods without getting achievements disabled.

EDIT: THIS THREAD IS OUTDATED AND THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN IT IS NOT VALID. NONE OF THE BASE GAME COMPONENTS MAY BE DISABLED OR REMOVED WITHOUT THE GAME BREAKING, WITH THE EXCEPTION OF SURVIVAL MODE, WHICH CAN BE TURNED ON AND OFF IN GAME - BUT IT CANNOT BE REMOVED, OR DEACTIVATED VIA A MOD MANAGER.

The information contained in this thread is outdated and not valid. You CANNOT deactivate any of the base game components without breaking the game - they are an inherent part of the game and must be present for the game and its questlines to function. The base game consists of the following:
Skyrim.esm
Update.esm
Dawnguard.esm
Hearthfires.esm
Dragonborn.esm
ccBGSSSE001-Fish.esm
ccQDRSSE001-SurvivalMode.esl
ccBGSSSE037-Curios.esl
ccBGSSSE025-AdvDSGS.esm

Or, in plain English

Skyrim
Update
Dawnguard
Hearthfires
Dragonborn
Fishing
Survival
Rare Curios
Saints and Seducers

To repeat: NONE of the above game components can be deactivated/removed at any time without the game itself breaking, with the exception of Survival mode, which can be turned on and off in game - but it CANNOT be removed, or deactivated via a mod manager.

If you don't like any of the above components, just ignore them in game.

Deactivting Dawnguard isn't necessary anymore anyway. Vampire random attacks on towns was removed. Its something the Special Edition removed.

That's old info.
In 2017 when I posted I was still getting to know SE, In Oldrim you can deactivate the DLC, in SE you can't because the game has been coded for all the DLC, The next post correct my information, because steve had a better grasp of the situation.

I have deleted that post now.

Please do not try to deactivate the DLC it will break something.

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
