Main quest completely broken?
So, I know I most likely have a mod that broke everything, but I have no idea which mod is causing it, And i don't want to go through the trouble of manually enabling every mod one by one, because it would take me a very long time to play through to the point that keeps breaking.

Here's my load order: https://pastebin.com/7tbN6ku0

I already tried a couple of things, like disabling JK's riverwood considering i've heard that riverwood mods can break the main quest for some reason, and that farengar argonian replacer

EDIT: i completely forgot to mention *WHAT* part of the story broke, the dragonstone tablet never spawns, balgruuf never gets out of his chair to talk to farengar, farengar never gets the option to get the tablet, and after i force the quest to complete, irileth never spawns to go to the western watchtower

Even if you were to disable all your mods, your game would most likely be broken anyway as the problem is no doubt baked into your save. You would need to restart the game from the beginning in order to fix it.

already tried that, it's one of my mods that keeps breaking it. hence why i said

Because if i have to make a new game every time i enable a mod, it would take me days

Well I'm sorry to say, but that's exactly what it takes when you get into modding these games. You go slowly and make sure everything is working before proceeding to add more mods. You're just asking for trouble tossing in a bunch of things all at once.

A restart would work if you disabled all of the mods. If it does not then you either are still running a conflicting mod or need to verify cache or reinstall game because something is borked.

Have you run LOOT or SSEEdit to try to identify which mod or mods could be conflicting?
CrackeR May 19, 2017 @ 8:06am
Research the mods better before installing, it is ESSENTIAL to read the description page thoroghly and read the Posts on the mod page to see if people are having issues.
Evidently you have a mod affecting Whiterun or maube the immersive citizens mod causing you pain. BUT, as Belanos stated your save is fried and nothing to do but begin again...
Try working the main quest past your critical meltdown stage before re-enabling any mods. :dwarven:

I'd be inclined to suspect the Farengar mod. What I'd suggest is removing that, adding Alternate Start Live Another Life (get it from the Nexus) and starting a new game, picking the "camping in the woods" option which lets you skip Helgen and launch the MQ immediately.

Turn the difficulty down to Novice, run straight up to Bleak Falls Barrow. You can run past most stuff, you'll have to kill that spider, the Dunmer stuck in the web, and the boss in the last chamber, I think, but everything else you can just ignore. Grab the Dragonstone and head straight to Whiterun and speak to the Jarl. This can be done in ten or fifteen minutes. If all works as expected then it was probably that mod.

If not, disable everything except the unofficial patch and ASLAL and repeat, if it works now then you need to figure out which mod was causing the problem, the best way is to re-enable in groups.

If so, then you can probably safely start a fresh playthrough, with or without ASLAL, and play on as normal.

Also, NEVER, EVER use the console to force quests to progress, especially the main quest. It's almost certainly going to result in even more broken quests further along, much better to figure out what's wrong and fix it.

Oh, also, have you run LOOT?

Pretty sure it's your Farengar mod: "Cool mod but completely breaks the main quest (using the SSE version)." http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/comments/724291648

The mod author says to disable it, do the quests, and re-enable it.

DO NOT do that on this playthrough. Your main quest is broken. Unless you have a save from BEFORE you installed it to revert to, uninstalling mods and carrying on is almost never a good idea. You need to restart, assuming you don't have a save from before installing the Farengar mod.

That link is broken, there's parts in it that aren't supposed to be in the address.

I wouldn't even bother with that mod. It doesn't sound like the author believes in testing his work before releasing things, so who knows what other problems might crop up. I don't see the point in turning Farengar into an Argonian to begin with.

quoting multiple people is buggy in the steam discussions...

Not really, you just have to watch the formatting. And you can go back and edit if something screws up.

As for not enough Argonians, of course not. They come from a tropical swampy environment. There aren't going to be very many of them that would be happy living in frigid Skyrim, with all it's snow and ice.
