Any way to stop those damn random vampire attacks?
It is getting really annoying that anytime I fast travel to a town there is a good chance NPCs will end up dead regardless of what I do. I'm sick and tired of reloading saves so I was wondering if there was a better way to remove this threat.

mods to make them flee, or literally go out and complete the entire dawnguard dlc for the dawnguard and remove the vamps...

No way of removing the threat, but instead of backtracking saves you can just resurrect people after the vampires are dealt with with the console, open it, click on the npc and just type in "resurrect". It can lead to some complications with receiving like, inheritance money or quests or something but as of yet I use it and haven't run into anything major as of yet (logging around 1.5k hours in skyrim in total).

Get the mod that makes people run from vampires, that should save most of their lives. Completing the dawnguard questline should almost eliminate the attacks, not entirely but they become extremely rare.

oh Smeg, not another console commando giving out bad advice.

NEVER resurrect an NPC, or you run the risk of crapping out your game in the long run. Almost all the NPCs, especially the named ones and ones with wuests attachedched to them have death scripts that run and CAN NOT be reversed.

When vampires attack covers you. Immersive citizens does as well with more.

Run for your Lives is another which is for Dragon Attacks

You know it's funny but dragon attacks were never really an issue. This is of course even after that time when two of them appeared while I was talking to an NPC the very first time I went to Dawnstar.

So the only real option is mods that make people run from vampires? I had hoped there was one that made them all spawn without lungs or somthing.

Personally I use No More Redshirts[www.nexusmods.com] for full "insurance".

This is a much better option, as it shuts down the vampire attacks in the cities completely. It was made for the original game but apparently it works with the SE as well:

Don't fast travel or enter a city at night. If you still want to fast travel, pick a location close to the city.

Kind of hard to know what time you'll get there when fast traveling, and it kind of defeats the whole travel thing if it takes forever to travel.

This is the type of thing I was looking for!

To be blunt how the hell were all these vampire even getting into the cites in the first place?!?!? Isn't there a big gate they would have to get past for the major cities?!?! What can the Whiterun city guard not lock the gate because they lost the keys or something?!!?

My thoughts exactly when I started encountering those episodes. The Vampires I can sort of understand, since they might be able to climb over the walls. But there's no way the Deathhounds would have been able to do that. All in all it was a really bad game mechanic.

Which is why you pick a location close to the city so you can wait for daylight if you have to.

I always assumed, given that the people of skyrim don't know a vampire if they're married to one, the vampires just walk in through the front gates before attacking anyone.

I have had vampire attacks in Whiterun during broad daylight. My favorite NPC is the ladysmith outside of Warmaidens so I had to do several reloads just to make sure she survived. Easiest way to reduce the vampire threat overall without mods is to complete the Dawnguard questline.
