How To Put Spin On The Ball
Never played real-life golf before and after the new patch every shot I hit rolls forward quite a bit after hitting the ground.

How do I apply/control spin? Back, forwards and stopping the ball dead?

in Real life you want to put the ball somewhat back in your stance to try and make contact before your swing starts to follow through, swing and try to visualize hitting the ball then through to the ground then coming through with your follow through. another way is a flop shot and that is opening your club face drastically as well as your stance. you almost want to be facing where the pin is for a flop.

sorry but this is the best I can do without a visual

it is a very big difference from before to now I have to say. some shots feel like they get no spin at all now, mainly with my 5 and up

I haven't played it yet (will hopefully try it later tonight) but if the spin is greatly reduced this is a good and necessary thing! I was getting absurd spin on nearly ever approach to the green. Some of my shots were backing up a good 20 yards or so.

Def. reduced. I played a couple of rounds with the new patch and didn't get any back spin at all. I'll try adjusting my swing as mentioned above.. I agree it seemed too strong before, but will like to see some, at least when trying for it.

Yeah when i really try it doesnt go backwards at all, just slows the roll

this would be my first immediate gripe with the new update - the new 'roll out' landing for everything including short chips feels less realistic than the exaggerated backspin pre-update. It also makes distance control on chips more difficult - borderline impossible on fast greens with lots of slope - the ball now actually seems to accelerate on landing, and if you land the ball anywhere near the cup (which was how you controlled distance pre-update) - the ball shoots off with the break of the green. this seems like a really radical adjustment that overshot any intended fix.

We are investigating solutions for backspace being applied to the ball. We felt that the results of this update were more beneficial to the experience than the unrealistic distances the ball was travelling backwards prior to this change.

Though it is difficult to get the ball to move backwards you should be able to apply enough spin to have the ball stop short off the landing. With that said if you're hitting a ball downhill to the cup you're going to have a hard time stopping the roll, especially on fast greens. Laying up short and playing the roll is the best option for a shot like that.

i will say there were some times where i hit the ball on the fringe and it proceeded to accelerate through the hole and it was just a small pitch shot that i feel shouldnt have made it far off the fringe because it wasnt downhill

great change. I can actually land balls on the green now. nice!

I have had no success with stopping the ball (via spin) with short chips. to me, being able to stop the ball next to the hole with a short chip gave me at least a chance to one putt. Now, a short chip has to be also read like a putt to guess the roll-out, but even the length of the roll out seems hard to anticipate. Chipping had less variables to anticipate and execute pre-update, which really helped my ability to hit better shots.

We are continuing to investigate a solution for the spin.

We've got some improvements coming down the pipe, Urth.

im with you urth, Im actually more displeased with not being able to stop the ball rather than it coming back too much

SOON™ (seriously though, we've addressed this and will be in our next update)
