From our small sample size the past few days, the faster swing speeds tend to come from the non-golfers. I'm hypothesizing here, but I suspect this is because it's easier for non-golfers to adjust to something new than it is for experienced golfers to have to re-learn something they already know. That being said, the experienced golfers performed significantly better over all as their knowledge for club selections and how to approach a shot were immensly advantageous.
We're using this data as we continue to fine tune our clubs and difficulties.

not to write a book on this, but what I'd like to see is the ability to adjust swing tempo and power to your own preferences. For instance, I can consistently swing at 70 mph, and make good enough contact on amateur to hit the ball strait. And this swing speed is easy on my body. I would love for the computer to recognize my 70 mph swing as a 100 mph swing and tailor my swing tempo (for all shots) based upon this ratio.
I think this might be a philosophical difference from what the designers want though. This would get away from the pure sim qualities, but imo - this would vastly improve the fun factor by giving all players access to full power shots (not just those brave enough to swing out of their socks). If I have to swing the controller recklessly fast for certain shots, that risks the controller flying out of my hands (strapped up or not), or risking injury if I lose track of where I am and hit something in my room with my swing? This to me makes no sense when playing a video game.
Being able to adjust swing tempo/power would also allow me to go back to a two handed swing style, where I probably would discover better consistency than my current one handed style.
Amateur is the midway point between Casual and Pro. The experience you described is our Casual difficulty in a nutshell.
I too would like to have a speed adaption as described above.
edit: probably similar to real life golf :)
