swing speed
Fellow golfers! I'm not a RL golfer, even though I have golfed a few times and have some clubs. I'm finding if very difficult to get any kind of decent swing speed keeping two hands on the controller. Chipping I do fine with two hands :) How many swing one handed and are okay with that?

Playing with controller is very awkward. You will not get the same swing mechanics as you do with a real grip. I am anxiously waiting for them to hopefully update the game for controller mods to be usable. Huge improvement and will be a game changer.

CakeM1x is correct that the swing mechanics differ a fair bit from that of swinging and actual club. The lack of weight and resistence can really impact how you swing. However, regarding swing speeds specifically; I average 103mph with the Driver in game and after running a handful of folks through playtests the past few days, we're seeing everything from mid 60's to high 90's from first time VR users with a range of real world golf experience. Some who have never played and some who frequent the local course.

From our small sample size the past few days, the faster swing speeds tend to come from the non-golfers. I'm hypothesizing here, but I suspect this is because it's easier for non-golfers to adjust to something new than it is for experienced golfers to have to re-learn something they already know. That being said, the experienced golfers performed significantly better over all as their knowledge for club selections and how to approach a shot were immensly advantageous.

We're using this data as we continue to fine tune our clubs and difficulties.

Thanks for the feed back!

I too found that a single (right) handed swing gives me more distance than a standard real world (two handed) grip. I think it's because there is no need to accelerate a weight with muscle power, it's just pure speed.

Yeah, makes perfect sense. Wish I could figure out a way to make a attachment for the touch. I have a 5 iron I'm ready to saw into pieces! lol

Technically feasible for sure but not without some serious safety issues I'm afraid.

So I used the included rockband attachment. I screwed it into the side of a driver I chopped in half. It feels perfect and allows me to swing amazingly now. The ONLY problem is that now the controller is about a half inch offset from the shaft so in game its ever so slightly off. If they made a way to manually adjust your virtual clubs offset with your controller it would work flawlessly. Here is a picture of my setup.

Nice! I completely forgot about that little add-on, Never took out of the box.. No concerns about the touch flying off during your swing?

So I wedge it in there pretty good and I actually wrap the wrist strap around 1 or 2 fingers when im holding the club so it stays tought. Its not perfect but its really fun. I wonder if adding the manual offset would be feasible.

awesome! thanks for the info

I started swinging two handed, but in order to get any distance on my shots, my form would get really loose or chaotic (trying to swing really hard), and my shots had no accuracy. I eventually moved to a one handed swing technique - I can swing faster & hit with greater accuracy. At least with 3i through the wedges. I've never been able to figure out a swing that hits driver, 3W, 5W.

not to write a book on this, but what I'd like to see is the ability to adjust swing tempo and power to your own preferences. For instance, I can consistently swing at 70 mph, and make good enough contact on amateur to hit the ball strait. And this swing speed is easy on my body. I would love for the computer to recognize my 70 mph swing as a 100 mph swing and tailor my swing tempo (for all shots) based upon this ratio.

I think this might be a philosophical difference from what the designers want though. This would get away from the pure sim qualities, but imo - this would vastly improve the fun factor by giving all players access to full power shots (not just those brave enough to swing out of their socks). If I have to swing the controller recklessly fast for certain shots, that risks the controller flying out of my hands (strapped up or not), or risking injury if I lose track of where I am and hit something in my room with my swing? This to me makes no sense when playing a video game.

Being able to adjust swing tempo/power would also allow me to go back to a two handed swing style, where I probably would discover better consistency than my current one handed style.

Hey Urth, if you play on Casual difficulty the power boost ratio is similar to what you're looking for.

Amateur is the midway point between Casual and Pro. The experience you described is our Casual difficulty in a nutshell.

But casual difficulty - doesn't that mean also more forgiveness in off center hits, assisted putts etc?
I too would like to have a speed adaption as described above.

My putting caused me to through my clubs in any near by water I can find!

edit: probably similar to real life golf :)
