New to QuiVr - need some clarifications
Hi there, QuiVr gang & Blueteak.

This is literally my first post to the steam discussion forum for any steam game I have ever owned, which tells a lot about how much I am enjoying QuiVr.

I've been lurking about these forums and looking up different tips and tricks to this game in how to progress further.

1. Difficulty seems to escalate dramatically
I have yet to get past gate 3-4 after the first event (keep an eye on where coloured ball goes). There are just so many things to keep track of, larger enemies with increased amounts of HP, shielders, green-beam-horrors, flying enemies, the large blue long legged dashers, yellow bombardment fiends, dark shrouded teleporters.

Of course I am inclined to check online and see what fundamental part of the game that I am missing - there was even a post here in the forums about increasing difficulty further by shooting the upper right box at the start which made me scratch my head.

There're the obvious tricks I've picked up; dodge the green beams, shoot yellow bombardment balls, always pick off the shielders, always aim for the explosive balls of flying types, charged shots kill the big round dashers... but in spite my efforts, I always get overrun at around gate 3-4 after the event.

What am I missing here? Do I just need to get better at aiming?

2. I have only received one item drop, a quiver, after roughly 10-11 losses
I was hoping maybe there'd be some sort of "acquire items over time, progress further" sort of deal - but the only thing I've picked up so far are the 314 resources every time after the first event, and only one quiver.

People are talking about motes, but I haven't bumped into these yet it seems.

Are items that big of a rarity?

Usually after a loss I do not get any sort of new item notification what so ever.

3. Are the purple gems still spread out between the various gates throughout the game, or have they all been placed in the starting area before you choose to start the game?
This may be a part of experiencing the game, but I've been going crazy looking around for these gems at the starting area, and I haven't seen a single one during my crusade toward 3-4 gates after the first event.

4. Just to verify - the boxes in the pre-game-area, they control difficulty of the game?
They don't seem to give off any sort of feedback when hit.

I apologize for the lengthy post - I am really, really liking QuiVr so far, and I intend to keep on trying until I reach the fabled next event, or a boss for that matter.

Cheers,
J

I can tell you really wanna learn and get better so ill give you the best tip.

Charge shot as much as possible, you gain the most souls that way, it also makes shield guys drop their shields and do alot of damage

Go into the game menu and turn on the health bar, so you can see their hp, and turn on the options to see the damage you do and souls you gain for the hit/kills. (red are damage, green are souls gain)

Do not camp at the gate area(gate you are defending) and wait for monstesr to come to you!!!

You want to move forward as soon as possible, that means right off the bat, kill the mob on the left and right, then advance all the way to the front and kill the mobs to stop more from advancing, the reason is because when mobs advance too far , they opens up more spawn points, so it makes it very hard to keep up since you have to deal with monsters that doesnt need to come all the way from the front gate.

They sky bombers, you want to shoot them in the eye, you get way more soul points and its a huge easy target to hit, you only want to shoot the bomb if you cant keep up.

Motes are the resources you are talking about, some people call it frags, fraggies, you get those after a lost or a win if you dont get a item(like the quivr you got). they are used for reforging items.

If you want to learn the game better, and I can tell you do... join a multiplayer game and we can talk you through some of the basics...It also allows you to advance quicker. In this game "STRENGTH IN NUMBERS" really does pay off. Make sure your Mic and speakers are working so you can communicate back and forth. This is how I was able to become proficient. Besides its a lot more fun with others with you. Once you start playing with "regulars" you can always join your "friends". This game is a blast! I'm on it almost every night... Look me up!

gems are all in the 1st area before you start the game. There are 8 and you need to get them consecutively. if you leave and come back then you need to reget them. there is 1 tricky one.... think tree

only the box on the right starts at a higher difficulty. it starts at you best score-10 gates to a maximum of 50 gates. so if you best score is below 10 then you will probably not see any difference.

play some MP and chat with people for tips. a lot more fun that way.

First of all. Welcome to the game, and enjoy playing. When I started my arrows would fly all over the place. I would really hit them only when they were almost at the range I could stick the arrow in their face by hand rather than shooting it. But practice makes perfect. And more in these/this game then others. So there is the first biggest tip.

Also, use what orb and special arrow you have IN the game. So much I see people seemingly 'saving up' their special abilities waiting for the enemy to get real close to the gate. Use them wisely, but from the start, they recharge.

Not everybody has the same role. You might not see it at the start when playing this game, but when you are lucky enough to get into a real good full team you will see that there are different kinds of archers. You have the long range snipers, medium headshot hunters, the short range machine gunners. But machine gun style doesn't seem so effective, because the ultimate goal in some point is not defending your gate, but to fill that meter asap before you get overrun completely, and for that you need souls. And those are given more with headshots and charged shot kills.

And best tip.. play mp... if you catch me online, always up for some fun.
