how the ♥♥♥♥ do i bypass uplay?

I don't think we can bypass it, though I just X it when it demands a log in and start from my steam menu.

Hello, the game will need the Ubisoft Connect launcher (formerly known as Uplay) to be downloaded and ran in the background, in order to play the game, there is no way to disable this.

Most of our games available on Steam also require the Ubisoft Connect launcher. You can check this requirement by looking for the yellow disclaimer note, on the right-hand side of the games Steam Store page if you are unsure. This will mention Uplay, Ubisoft Connect, or a Ubisoft Account is needed.

You do need to have an account connected on Ubisoft Connect, as it will link the ownership of the game to both Steam and Ubisoft. Like mentionned by Ubi-Milky, almost all of our games available on Steam need the Ubisoft Connect launcher running in the background.

I shouldn't be forced to make a stupid account to play a singleplayer game!

The game is awesome, but I shouldn't have to install another client if I bought the game from Steam. Steam is all I should need to play the game. No account otherwise. Seriously, games are going to ♥♥♥♥ because of horrible business decisions like this. The only purpose for including another client is to feel involved and advertise bs, then gleefully praise it as a benefit.

uplay has been "Looking for patches" for over an hour now. I've tried restarting it. It always just hangs at that screen. I'm absolutely going to avoid ubisoft games in the future because of this.

Hell friend, if your Ubisoft Connect is looking for patches for an increased amount of time you may need to delete your cache as you sometimes need to do when game launchers have stored too many temporary files.

As for the requirement of the Ubisoft Connect launcher, this is something that has always been needed since the launch of the game 5 years ago. Most of our games on Steam will require our Connect launcher, but we will take on board your feedback. I will mark this topic as resolved as it has answered the OPs question.

this ubisoft account crap kills this game. i have already made an account from when i had played assassins creed over 8 years ago. never touched the account again. went to log in today and in trying to log in, this stupid 2-factor verification ♥♥♥♥ pops up that i NEVER added to my account. says i have 6 recovery codes sent to the account email to use to get into my account. i have no emails regarding recovery codes from ubisoft. download google authenticator to see if i did set it up and forgot but i have ZERO accounts on my authenticator app. maybe i'm doing something wrong but regardless, the requirement to be connected to ubisoft's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ launcher to play a singleplayer offline game is ridiculous. going back to pirating games since it's honestly easier than this pain they put you through
