"Press Enter To Start" Error

Hello there! I've played this game in the past and decided to buy it on my steam due to nostalgia and that beautiful sale price. The download process seemed to go okay (it took quite a while but the game is pretty big so I can't really complain) but I can't seem to play it. I can only go to the "Press Enter To Start" page, nothing happens if I press the enter key (or any other key). I've tried restarting the game several times, restarting my computer, and opening the game from Ubisoft Connect instead of the actual game shortcut. Does anyone have a solution for this?

Hey Aidan_03 thanks for getting in touch. The best thing you can do first is verify your game files in steam. This will correct any files that may be missing or corrupt and reinstall any supporting software you may need.

Next please make sure your Windows OS is up to date, I believe the latest version is WIndows 10 20H2.

Please make sure to disable any software in the background that is not Ubisoft Connect or Steam in the Task Manager Windows application.

Hey again, thank you so much for the swift reply! Unfortunately it seems even with the fixes mentioned above it just doesn't want to work. The games seems to run fine, no noticeable lag and the intro seems to go smoothly, but for some reason, the game just acts as though I'm not even pressing the enter bar. All isn't lost thought because my Windows definitely wasn't up to date and this forced me to fix it haha. Do you have any other ideas I can try? I haven't been able to find anyone with the same problem so I'm sure it has to be something on my end. Thank you in advance!

Sorry to hear this.

Can I just check if you have tried using another keyboard at all? If you don't have another keyboard are you able to also try using the on-screen keyboard included with Windows just for troubleshooting purposes?

Hello, thank you for responding! I'm currently using my laptop so I don't have any other keyboard I could try, however I tried the on-screen keyboard and it yielded some interesting results. I got past the screen with the keyboard enter and it seemed like the rest of the game worked fine (I could use my regular keyboard for everything else). So it seems that I'm just having problems with that one screen. Do you have any ideas how I could fix that? Honestly it wouldn't be the end of the world if I had to use my on-screen keyboard just to load in, that's just a small price to pay for this great game. Thank you for this advice and possibly other future advice! :)

Hey Aidan_03, your issue does seem to be quite unusual or at least this is the first time I have heard of this issue with the game. Are you able to force the game to open in a Windowed mode or borderless mode?

You can adjust the games config file to adjust the settings in the game. There should be a line that says - full_screen = 1

You can try changing the value of this to =0 then see if the game will allow you to use the enter key on your laptop after forcing the game to open in a different mode?

If you need to revert any settings you can go back into the file and change it back, or delete the config file, then when launching the game it will generate a brand new default config file before you made any changes.
