How does this have such high reviews?

I made the mistake of buying off a keyshop in order to try and save a fiver. Bloody thing is Uplay only. Took me over an hour to get it running on the steam deck.

And now I'm 3 hours in and it's rapidly becoming apparent the game is nowhere near the level of writing-quality or offensive as the first one. Looked it up, and while the first one was Obsidian + Parker/Stone created. This is Ubisoft. Ubisoft San Fransisco. This explains a lot of the more... Odd decisions.

I can already see the struggle between highly progressive woke SF politics and the core of what south park is. The inattention to the little details. The focus on pointless crap that just drags out the pacing.

Case in point: First game has a little joke where you can crap in toilets. You mash A and a brown meter fills up. If you mash hard enough the brown bar slides out the bottom of the meter in the shape of a crap. Second game every toilet is it's own complicated mini-game that takes way more time. The bar is not brown coloured, as that would be too gross for the snowflakes making it.

First game had a plot line about making Facebook friends. It was a cool way to force the player to go interact with all the characters from the show. Do quests for them. Second game has you going around taking selfies with people. Essentially the same thing. Except now instead of pressing a button and reading a line of dialogue, you now press a button, read a line of dialogue, wait for the selfie screen to load. Now you can select your expression and take the picture. But EVERYONE you take selfies with makes the exact same super happy face. Goth kids included. Beyond pointless padding I have no idea why this was included in the game.

Does it get much better later on or something?

I don't need to lower my expectations to enjoy any other comedy games. Nice of you to admit this one is subpar quality. Though that does return to my original question as to why it has such high reviews...

Nah the game is as funny as ever. A worthy sequel to a very good first game. Also damn, there's so much attention to details imho. Maybe we ain't playing the same game

I have no need to explain tastes. Plus you're not making any "reasoning". You're saying you think it's bad because you don't like it. There's nothing factual to argue about in your agument. As you know "de gustibus". But I must say that I am not surprised by the fact that you're not receiving much feedback on your topic. Stating that the fact that some people like the game is due to their "poor tastes" probably won't get you much friendliness.
It's okay though, I am enjoying the game and you will probably enjoy a different one

I gave a specific example in my original post. You are projecting your own argument onto me. You are the one who simply stated the game was funny. Your inability to read the original post is not a failing of mine.

I imagine I'm not getting much feedback because these forums are essentially dead. There are posts on the front page from the games launch date years ago. I can't really say I'm bothered about not making friends. That's not at all what I came here for. I came here to find out why the game had such good reviews and if the game gets considerably better later on.

It is quite disheartening that people seem content to respond with little more than "game fun!" and then spit their dummy out when I challenge them. Doesn't indicate the game gets better at all, more that the bar has been lowered once again.

You can detect childish writing in the first 3 minutes of the game. And the blue turd in the toilet scene is only one of at least 3 I've seen.
The first game was made for grown up adults. This game was made for people who's feelings needs to be protected. I.e. exactly the opposite of what South Park is.

It was made for mOdErN aUdIeNcEs.
