Max Hero Rank?

I was just curious, what is the max hero rank?
Also I'm not really sure but what does increasing Hero Rank do anyway?
It seems your stats are mostly affected by Artifacts but does Hero Rank affect stats as well?
I am in the end game working on Danger Deck DLC and was just curious how much higher I can take my Hero Rank before it gets maxed.

The Hero Rank system is to represent your current character's level and does come with unlocks as you level up.

These unlocks are for additional artifact slots (from Minor to Epic) with the max level being 15.
