Finally got the game to load every single time. My fix below:

Ok, so I have this game (Uplay version only, not Steam) and had this problem since I bought it right before Christmas. I was able to get it to open twice, but once I shut it down, I was back to the same problem as before. (Pressing play and Uplay saying it was preparing to play or loading the game and then the load screen went away, .exe disappeared from Task Manager, a Uplay showing "sychronizing with the cloud.) I have spent hours and hours looking through forum posts on here and the ubisoft site, contacting ubisoft (no response) and trying different fixes for myself.

So anyway, I found a fix that works everytime, meaning it always loads/opens and I no longer have the issue. I don't know if it'll work for any of you, but I'll let everyone know what finally worked for me to see if it helps anyone.

First, I completely uninstalled Uplay and the game. Redownloaded Uplay, unclicked "run uplay" at the end of the install, then went to the install location and added "run as admin" then opened it.

After that, I redownloaded the game. Went to the SPTFBW folder and set it to "run as admin" but did not open it yet. (the .exe file)

Next, I did a COMPLETE Clean Boot. Turned off absolutely every process.

Restarted computer

Opened Uplay (again, it was already set to "run as admin"), then pressed "play." Game opened right up. Once on the title screen I quit, did it again, worked.

Next I started adding back the disabled processes two or three at a time, as something had to have created a conflict. It "seems" for me to have been my amBX processes that were causing it. I disabled them again, restarted the computer, opened Uplay, pressed play and it worked fine.

Restarted comp again just to make sure it would still work, and it works fine.

So from what I can tell there seems to be a conflict with Uplay or the game with certain running processes or programs for some of us. While I'm sure there's no one else here who has an amBX system, that most likely won't be the process that's causing your problem, but just a suggestion to do what I did and see if you can find the guilty process/program.

It goes without saying, but I probably should add, make sure your graphics card drivers are up to date.

Sorry. I hoped it would, because paying the money I did for it and it never working was driving me insane, so I know how you feel. Hopefully it'll help someone else.
