High up items?

So in the SOT I could use a bow or a long ranged projectile to knock an item down to get it. I only played like 30 minutes last night but still. In someones bedroom there is a collectible up ontop of a cabinent. Do I get long ranged weapons or what? When I press R I can inspect the area for items I can get and it confirms I can...do I need to progress further? I just have my fists.
