I do agree with you that a South Park MP game could be pretty great though (could also be really terrible, it all depends on the development process)... but this isn't it, and no one has ever suggested it would be.
Honestly I find your entire question a little odd... you think a game had bad sales, or the sequel is a half-assed attempt just because they didn't add MP for whatever reason...? That's a strange line of reasoning if you ask me.
I'm not wanting to judge it as half butt whole or whatever ... at least not until it's released and metacritic tells how I should judge it.
Mostly just because the 2nd game costs twice the price as the first game I wonder if there would be something more than what we got with the first SP game.
I haven't played many Ubisoft games so I don't actually know if they already have MP experience or were looking to develop it. Just seemed like one way they could legitimize the huge price increase. MP South Park could be hilarious to play with friends at church and stuff. I laughed and was at times horrified playing the first game SP which made me think why couldn't my mates be with me sharing all those special moments.
I honestly don't know if the first game was a financial success but they are definitely getting twice the loot for the second game. I'd like to see something extra for the extra loot and MP was the first thing that came to mind. Too early to judge if the 2nd game is worth the extra price. Hopefully it is and maybe there will be a 3rd game with a good MP or maybe VR South Park.
True. MP in a game might take away resources needed to make the SP game good.
However, they are asking twice the money for the 2nd South Park game so maybe they could pull off another good South Park SP game and still add something extra like MP if they use the extra money for more developers.
I thought the SP in Dragon Age: Inquisition wasn't good but I at least liked the MP. Probably never good to add things like MP until you know your SP game is up to par.
That wasn't the reason it was terrible though. In fact, the multiplayer part of this game is its best part. What brings the game down is the fact that you can complete everything it has to offer in under 4 hours.
