:[ whaat. That sucks. You must be a super edge case, because everyone else who has been complaining seems to have the new patch fix the issue.

Does the ball go through under low speeds, high speeds? Do you experience any frame jitter at that time? Can you try to take a video recording of the ball going through the paddle?
fghk Sep 30, 2016 @ 9:20am
same here nearly every set yesterday and more than one time per set. went through under high speeds only. opponents confirmed it

Hmm, would love some video to show this (easier to debug on what happened).

We will look and see could be causing it. So far, I have tried everything, and can't get the ball to go through my paddle unless I swing like a racquetball stroke - something I'd never ever do in pong.

Fghk is one of those players that made me sweat when I played him. Really good and fast. I don't know what happened outside of our games but we both had issues when trying to really smash the ball at full speed. Idk if that is his issue every game though.

Nice..Tom, so you have seen this too? We played, we had some pretty fast swings, and I didn't notice anything. Does Fghk swing much faster than that?

I've only seen it when there's a high lob and I swing 100% out of muscle memory. I think the same happened with fghk when he saw a high one. I can try to recreate it tonight with someone during the "mess around" mode, but I'm not sure if it's a Vr limitation or what. I've noticed that in both paddle up and waves that a full speed swing will more than not "pass through" the ball

That might be another issue - when you accelerate very very hard, the vive tracking actually messes up. What might be happening is that you think the controller is in one place, but the system thinks it's in another. We can try to adjust for this, but it's dangerous since any SteamVR update an come around and break it. We are more concerned with cases where it is visually obvious the ball passes through the paddle.

Even if the paddle moves from one side of the ball to the other- if you can draw a straight line through the paddle using the relative ball positions, and there was no collision, then it's a problem.

Gotcha, yes the high speed paddle hits are the only times I've seen it pass through, the rest have been solid for me....and yes pun intended...why not

I also definitely saw some cases of the ball going through the paddle today. The most obvious one was when I was returning a slow backspin ball in the middle of the table and the ball just went through the paddle. I asked if the opponent saw that and he confirmed that he saw it go straight through the middle of the paddle. So this definitely wasn't because of fast hand movement because it was a really slow shot. Outside of that, I feel like it might have happened a couple of times but I'm not sure if I just missed the shot due to spin or something. But there's definitely still something weird with the collision detection.

Guess I'm not a super edge case after all. Don't like your smug attitude like you doubted what I told you.Now I don't give a damn if you fix it or not.I'll just play more Paddle Up but thanks for nothing.

Chill dude, the devs have been super quick to address any criticisms of the game and they genuinely care about the game. I think you seriously misinterpreted.
Hillary Sep 30, 2016 @ 2:31pm
hmm, thanks, deed...will look more into it. Might actually be related to a similar thing which is causing the ball to skip in the air sometimes.

bigtroy .. sorry if anything I said came off as smug. I just spent half a week chasing down the cause of 2 big bugs that many were having. One of them was the ball-through-paddle issue. I thought I had fixed it, as many who have complained said they don't see it happening again. So any negative attitude you may have felt was purely my frustration at not solving the problem sufficiently.

As deed mentioned, I and my team are super invested in making every user satisfied with the game. So if you bare with me and help me help you, we'll both be helping everyone :)

bigtroy..please don't start or continue any misunderstandings here. We are all on the same team - the team of human beings who want to play ping pong in their living rooms and also be able to visit mars in the same hour :)
