"as his only serve was a side spin chop that maybe dropped on 3 inches on my side"
and
"I can't imagine some of these guys coming to a club and expecting someone to play with them like this but I guessing these guys don't play IRL"
--- i'm not sure if you've ever been in a club, but people try to spin the ball as much as possible. People buy fancy expensive paddles with rubber tacky enough to pick up a ball, just to be able to spin as much as possible.
If you are just hitting with a friend, and the purpose is to have a nice casual time, sure... but if you are playing the game as people play at sport-wise, what you describe is on par in VR and in real life.
also: "The Wall Minigame unfortunately showcases how unrealistic the ball physics really are in this game",
i'm not sure what you are referring to. The wall mini game was just thrown together in a few minutes because someone suggested a wall mode. In reality, the table is tilted at likely a different angle, and the table probably has a bit of give..and also i think the current table bounce param is too low and needs to be calibrated.
but what do you mean exactly about "unrealistic the ball physics really are"
My issue is when I challenge a high ranking player I expect to learn from them not go against a guy who is exploiting your unrealistic ping pong game. If I send a request on a 400 level player, I expect to get the crap kicked out of me while I try to understand how to counter their spin, not some moron who's exploiting the game, lives for his ranked number and has one serve, if you don't have an issue with that, it explains why the game is as bad as it is. You don't understand sportsmanship, do you? There's literally nothing on the line and to top it off you can play AI if you can't handle being a decent human being. Don't act stupid like I'm the only one who posts about this you can literally see it on page after page in this forum. If you have an issue with that....it's your game, you can fix it.
You didn't have to mention the wall minigame was thrown together because it's quite obvious. If this game was polished like it should be (but isn't because the state of VR allows for low level devs such as yourself to thrive in such a non competitive environment) the table "param" wouldn't have to be adjusted because the physics of the ball would be correct regardless if the table is flat during a game or vertical in a minigame. This guy has to change the way the ball reacts to hitting the table in a mini game and then has the nerve to ask me what exactly I mean. If you had the physics correct it shouldn't matter if the table was flat, sideways, upside down. Genius.
PS, here is a video of a high level IRL player using the game as a real practicing tool. So you think the physics is bad, meanwhile real life players significantly better than me and I assume you, would happily disagree with you
https://youtu.be/_ugugbGRYYE?t=165
The video has nothing to do with the wall mini game, obviously your "param" would be the same on a flat table. I also stated that I commend you for doing what you can to make this realistic but you didn't want to accept that in beginning and want to act like the game is reality instead of virtual. My main beef was other players and not being able to enjoy the game like I would at a club, I also mentioned it was mostly not your fault but you wanted to rush to the side of players I mentioned and said they're just being competitive. Whatever, I now understand why the social features of multiplayer is garbage for players within a certain skill level and that's because of your mentality, end of story. When you get a video of a pro player using the wall mini game then post it, if your code was good the ball should bounce the same way it does on a flat table without changing the parameters of the table.

so no, a vertically folded table does not bounce like a rigid flat table
and I already mentioned that the current table param needs to be calibrated.

I'm not on anyone's side. You claim the game is not fun for you because of tryhards, and i'm saying that trying hard is fun for them because they want to win. There is nothing more to it. You aren't happy with how much they want to win instead of just having fun.
You keep throwing the words garbage, and assailing my mentality, when apparently you haven't the slightest clue what goes on in my head or the development history of this game. You should join the discord and realize how much I communicate with all of the users - and how much I take everyone's input to heart. You might want to think that you are coming from this ultimate truth and I'm just blinded to your light, when in fact you are a whisper on the wind - just a super minority opinion.
But guess what, every person's opinion is taken into account. You say the game isn't fun for you for various reasons, and I absorb that and think how to resolve that issue. However, "these online users are being too serious and not having fun", is something that will likely never change. Maybe one day when we have multiple lobbies, and criteria like "casual play only", then you'd be at home.
So thanks for you time, and your input, but I do wish you were less attacking and more constructive...but I am not going to be able to change you, just like you wouldn't be able to, for now, play the game online, and avoid all tryhards.
If you haven't played in months, and haven't noticed any changes, then you are simply blind to them - which is ok. Not everyone is high enough level to notice the minute changes to physics and other aspects to the game.
There will always be users who think the physics is wrong, even then it matches reality 100% (it doesn't yet). There will always be players who think that the ball is too heavy, while other think the ball is too light. Some will think it's too spinny while others will think it isn't spinny enough. I've heard it all. I've also made no claims that the game is 100% realistic, and have repeatedly stated to anyone discussing it that there is a lot of work that needs to be done to bring it even closer than it is.
I respond to people's reviews similarly to how they state their complaint. If they come in sound like whatever they say is the ground truth, and everyone else is wrong, I answer in a manner appropriate. I always follow up with inviting them to an actual back to back conversation to discuss any aspects they feel are wrong. ... but you wouldn't know this. I sent you a friend request to do the same with you, but you haven't accepted.
"Anyone who treats this game competitively is a buffoon and is only wasting their time"
Yep, you got it. You must be right, while everyone who treats it competitively is a buffoon. smh
If someone is beating you with spins, and you want to win "honorably", you can ask them through voice chat to "not play lame". Of course, the players are under no obligation to do so.
If someone is abusing some aspect of physics in the game, and creating spin serves that is humanly impossible in real life, or the racket physics in the game makes it impossible to return such a serve while in real life it WOULD be possible, then you should say so and the game would be improved to the benefit of everyone.
If the racket customization and physics of the game makes it so that people can make amazing spin serves after a few hours of practice, while it would take them years to do in real life, then...I'm not really sure what to say about that. I guess maybe I'll be happy cause I gotta tell you it's not fun in real life when you're the best table tennis player in a group (and I am no where near competition).
I used to go to a ping pong club and there was an old guy who had an expensive paddle who did nothing but spins and slices. I had a relatively stiff rubber because I was just starting out and it was a pain in the ass playing him. My thinking was exactly like yours for a while, like man this guy is cheap he's trash without abusing his paddle.
But then I realize that he's not even close to being the top 50 percent of the club. Everyone else is playing "honorable" tennis, and they all beat this old dude consistently. This old man cannot take a game off of ANY of the top half of the club, so he's just getting his wins in against scrubs like me.
So I asked some of the top players how to receive these spins and I practiced. And eventually I could beat the old guy maybe 30 percent of the time. I played three times a week and it took me a good 2 months to beat him the first time. But it was a big victory because from then on I didn't have that mental weight on me thinking those ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ serves were unbeatable.
Ask yourself this
if a game has a strategy that is "the best", but anyone can learn to do it, is it an unfair game? it might not be a "fun" game, but fun is subjective. We're just talking about whether it's fair or not here.
TLDR
speaking of TL;DR lol...
you commend then condemn the same person in the same sentence while making it painfully clear you have very little understanding/experience/skill when it comes to table tennis. you only want to be heard but dont want to listen.
your issue is with competitive people, not with the the dev or the game itself. people will ALWAYS be competitive, there is nothing you can do about that. high level players are not obligated to teach you anything, stop acting like a baby.
if you see me in game, challenge me. i will kick the crap out of you without exploiting a single unrealistic thing as this game doesnt allow you to do anything unrealistic, everything you can do in game is everything that is possible within the realm of real life physics. you can try and figure out how to counter my spin but i guarantee youll just cry and quit because thats what it sounds like you do best.
both the dev and another person have tried to be reasonable with you despite being absurdly unreasonable yourself and youve gone straight to attacking them personally because their answers are not what you want to hear. while i dont encourage or recommend anyone to stop playing this game, if you do then i can say with 100% certainty that everyone is far better off.
how on earth would you know this? from what youve said its very clear you have very little to no understanding of how spin works as youre expecting to learn from playing (comparatively) low rated players who dont use much themselves. how would you know how every direction & every amount of spin is supposed to react off of every single rubber/blade combination and how could you say so absolutely that the way it is ingame is wrong?
youre clearly used to using cheap paddles with no rubber or foam and expect the ball to come off completely flat every time. that is NOT how table tennis works. insulting the dev of the game for an issue you have with human nature is not the right way to go about doing anything either.
your only real issue seems to be with the practice wall and that is such a infinitesimally small part of the game that doesnt highlight anything that you think it does with your limited understanding. yet because the dev didnt respond the way you wanted him to you blow up and start attacking every aspect of the game AND him as though youre some acclaimed TT expert/programmer.
another TL;DR: practice, get good, stop crying. professional players swear by this game. no ones opinion is invalid but theirs is obviously more valid than yours.
' I expect to get the crap kicked out of me while I try to understand how to counter their spin'
'his only serve was a side spin chop'
'I'm not going to break something in my house to challenge something that stupid.'
so you want to learn how to counter peoples spin but when someone uses spin you spit the dummy and decide you dont want to play anymore. also, side spin serves are perfectly valid & legal serves and are one of the most common serves you see people at clubs doing... he is probably someone who DOES go to a club in real life and has seen people doing that serve.
what is it that you want?! lol. you contradict yourself so many times while kicking and screaming that the games not being tailor made to suit your needs & desires.
DickWiggler, I know you're reading this cause that's what you do. My point of saying I was just like you is to let you know that you should try to get over this hill first then make a judgement. Once you can go past a certain gate, you can then look back and decide if the game is for you.
Did you try using the ball machine to practice? Do you look up a single youtube video about how to receive spins? It does suck if no one is explaining things to you but I can't do anything about that. Sometimes I am in a good mood and I am willing to play with who is obviously a little kid who just got a Quest. But other times I just want to work on my own game you know? Anyways, hope you can try again and over come this. Be nice!
