mild spoiler warning for the prologue

Very sugoi game, but the original VN is superior IMO. The vn is very high quality but in some aspects it falls short to the original, like the script being longer for one in the og. Some of Okabe's additional monologues are just removed for no reason. This could've been the definitive edition of steins gate but it just fell short in a lot of ways.

The game is immersive and fun dont get me wrong, but for @channel scenes they could've done it like CHAOS;CHILD (this isn't a big thing) but the world would've felt even more alive. Scrolling and reading the content for yourself when you're on Okabe's phone. Or when the lab mems are looking at sern files and reports you scroll through the documents and read them yourself, things like this make you realize that the game had a lot more potential.

The CGS are the best thing ab this game, but they for some reason didn't have a CG for the first world line divergence in the prologue, when that was literally the best thing about the OG vn and anime too. That scene where Okabe looks at an empty Akiba, it really set the mood.

OFC, its still steins gate and it's an amazing experience regardless. But instead of a cute CG with mayuri blinking at the start of the game, they could've added the scene which is more important than mayuri just acting cute.

Just a lot of missed potential, I'm hoping steins:??? will be worth it or whatever sciadv comes next.

Steins;Gate is easily a 10/10 visual novel and one of the best time travel stories ever written.

Is the remake necessary? Probably not, the OG is significantly cheaper on sale and has some content that is cut in RE:BOOT (although not a huge amount and honestly its not really necessary, the pacing is a bit better here but if you want the "full" experience I'd definitely recommend the OG)

However if you love the story and want to experience it for either the first time (and don't mind the cost) or wish to revisit it with a fresh coat of paint, I do highly recommend RE:BOOT! The newly redrawn backgrounds are stunning and many locations in Akihabara are instantly recognisable now that I've been there since when I originally played.

The new content (ending + various smaller scenes) isn't a huge amount extra (probably only an hour or two in total) but presents a really interesting "What if" which fits in perfectly with all the other side-endings and is definitely worth experiencing.

No regrets and well worth it but if you are coming to Steins;Gate for the first time and aren't sure on the price I'd suggest getting the Original for your first experience and for MUCH cheaper.
