Character House -Desktop Companion-

Bugs, keystroke counter concern
  • Sometimes the portraits glitch and makes a character have features from another character in the character profile UI.
  • Option to disable the N key from changing where the characters are in which monitor (it moves them while typing).
  • When trying to change the Left and Right options for a feature like eyes, the Left and Right toggle switch when picking an already selected customization.
  • Personal taste, but I would like if the color picker side stayed open and maybe just grayed out/dimmed if it was not applicable to be customized.
  • Option to disable the keystroke logger when not in the tabletop/work mode. This demo got pretty popular in a community I'm in, but I've heard a couple of other concerns with this feature.

Aside from that, the characters are a delight on my screen, and the only suggestion I can think of at the moment is individual scaling for different heights. I wish the development for the full game to be well and generative AI free.

Thank you for your suggestion. Our typing/keystroke counting works the same way as other counting games on the market — it only counts while the game is running, and all data is stored locally on your device. That said, we understand that some players may still have concerns about this, and we're already working on plans to address it. Please give us a little time, and we're very sorry for any trouble this has caused you.

Sorry, but to my experience this is not true. My keystroke counter has gone up a TON between closing and reopening the game. It's obviously still counting when the game is closed, whether or not that is a bugged feature. Additionally, when I started steam today, the demo tried to reinstall itself without prompting. Neither of these things look very good for user security.

I hope to see this fixed in an update because otherwise I'm very much enjoying what you've made and was looking forward to being able to add my own assets to my characters. Right now though, I am keeping this uninstalled until I see reports change.

Thanks so much for the follow-up! As for the counter going up while the game's closed — we haven't managed to reproduce it ourselves yet, but we'll keep digging, since we've gotten similar reports. Either way, really appreciate you flagging it. We'll drop you a note once it's fixed.
About the demo trying to reinstall itself after uninstalling — please take a look at the announcement we just posted, it has the exact steps to sort it out. Honestly, that one was a bug on our end from an oversight in dev and testing, and we're genuinely sorry for the hassle and worry.
If that still doesn't sort things out for you, feel free to reply here anytime. Thanks again!

Thanks very much for the response! Especially for the reinstall issue, that makes perfect sense as to why it bugged.

Please let us know if there are any further details affected players can submit to help with tracking down that keystroke bug!

UPDATE: After using the suggested fix for the reinstall issue/launch on startup, my counter bug also seems to be fixed? I tested a few times and it is no longer counting when the game is closed. Unsure if they're related but I figured I'd share in case it helps you.
