I wanna be "that guy" that's at the top of every mode. :P
Goodluck in getting top spot.
Oooooh, okay! I knew it was impossible! I was thinking that, even if you somehow 10-fruit comboed every single piece of fruit, there was just no way to get a score anywhere near 980. Thank you!
After playing Zen mode a bunch more, I've hit 422 as my personal highscore (currently #6 on the leaderboard). I've learned three important things about this mode:
1. It seems SUPER dependant on your luck getting good throws. If the game just keeps giving you a single piece of fruit, you won't be successful. Although 422 is my highest score by a good margin, I believe I just kept getting large, quicky-thrown lines of fruit.
2. That having been said, you HAVE to combo as many pieces of fruit as possible. You have a very limited amount of fruit, unlike the other two modes. You could get a high score in Classic without comboing at all (since all you have to do is make sure you don't miss any fruit) and Arcade is a bit more focused on keeping your streak going (getting that drumbeat started and not letting it go away is the most important thing to focus on). No fruit should be outside of a combo in Zen mode.
3. Timing/speed seems to be a huge factor. I noticed that a lot of waves were thrown the MOMENT I sliced the last piece of fruit that was in the air. So I started slicing fruit faster, and it seemed as though the waves came faster as well. Knowing this, I believe that slacking (waiting to see if more fruit is coming, for instance) will drastically lower scores. As soon as you know that no more fruit is coming for that wave, slice all of the fruit that is in the air. This is tough, since slicing too late means wasted time, while slicing too early means less combos. Also, avoid bashing fruit away, since the next wave usually won't start until that one fruit lands.
Hopefully tomorrow I can use this knowledge to take the #1 spot. :D
Seriously? Wow, I do think I remember your name on the board. I want that last #1 spot so badly, but this mode feels so much harder to improve at. I wish the current #1 would come in here and tell us how he did it, haha!
Ooooh, I did notice that the top 3 (even after that 980 score was removed) were all devs. So all of those scores will be removed too? Even that 547 score seems insane.
Oh yeah, I believe those (since I beat them :P). Was sad to find out that two different people took my #1 spots for both classic and arcade, but I knew that I'd have to fight for those. My classic score got OBLITERATED, though.
The Zen mode ones just seem crazy. REPresenh has proven that I could improve, but I'm still skeptical about 547 (and the next couple of dev scores) being legit.
Dev hax confirmed.
Tip: don't let the last 1-2 fruit go to waste. Skewer it. You can then use it in combo and it makes the next wave spawn faster.
