Fruit Ninja VR

HalfBrick? Fruit Ninja?
So, you'll pay for it, and then ads will start popping up in your face? Also, wait a few and there will be Starfruit DLC packs and individual blades being sold to you.

I uninstalled this on Android years ago, so they could have went back on it and actually fixed the money grubbing mess they made of it, but adding ads to a paid game had already become known as "Halfbricking" by them.

There's no ads in Fruit Ninja VR. I can't say anything about the DLC tho.

Yeah, it was basically snark because of how bad they screwed paying customers on Android.

I could be wrong, maybe they fixed things in the years since I deleted the app in disgust, but the anger at any company who adds ads to a paid game doesn't go away easily.

Not Triolith or Booyah bad, mind you, but enough that they're off my list of companies to buy from.

Fruit Ninja split and the original non add version is back without starfruit etc. However they kept the leveling system to unlock new blades instead of the "achievment route".

And the starfruit dlc with adds is now the free version of fruit ninja.

You shouldn't really post bad reviews about a game if you haven't played it in years.

This is a review?

I didn't see the thumbs down cluttering up the ratings of the game.

Making a comment about the previous bad practices of a company on a discussion board is not a bad review of a game.

I'll admit, this is a concern for me as well. I don't mind popups in free games, I just don't play them, but in a paid game, a pop adfest would infuriate me.

I don't think they'd get away with it on Steam, even Amazon is more restrictive about devs cheating their customers, but I think Google is just happy to get more ad revenue.

I just feel compelled to mention things like this whenever I see a company that has pulled something similar in the past putting something new out. People should know that they've taken advantage of their customers in the past, and they should know that the people they burn do not forget it, even years down the line.

Hey guys!

Fruit Ninja VR is a premium title with a completely different revenue model to the mobile versions on iOS and Android. There are NO ADS in this game and we plan on keeping it that way.

Fruit Ninja Kinect didn't have ads. Fruit Ninja Kinect 2 didn't have ads. The same will remain true for Fruit Ninja VR on Steam, both now and after the game leaves Early Access.

Hope this clears up any confusion!

Don't mention VR games and ads in the same sentence...it's ridiculous. I think you're in the wrong forum...go to mobile game sites or something.

Do you really think they're not coming?

It may not be Halfbrick who does it, but somebody will.

Eventually people will come to see it as normal, and then a new medium will come out and people will crack quasi-joking bits of snark on discussion forums about ads showing up there, and people will say it'll never happen.

I can guarantee you that ads in VR will happen. There are already companies approaching us for it in our game. But I won't allow it for this game. I think adding ads to VR is just wrong. Reminds me of Futurama too much.

I don't mind 'sponsors' though.
slicing a can of redbull to trigger slowmotion .
It's all in how subtle you can be, but just go overboard with it.

I'm glad to see that you shut down all of the peoples' worries! Personally, I wouldn't mind something like a hotair balloon in the distance with a company's name on it or something (kind of like how you can see a bunch of VR titles shown in Space Pirate Trainer), but anything more than that would be completely immersion breaking.

Perhaps you should consider creating a FAQ stickied thread for this question and whatever else is being asked a lot. "Are there going to be ads?" "Will the game's price change?" "Will there be paid DLC?" "Will there be microtransactions?" "More swords?" "More levels?" "More modes?" That's what I came up with off the top of my head, just thinking about what I've seen in various discussion posts such as this one.

One that I saw that just made sense was Burnout: Paradise. Slamming into a Vizio billboard at 320kph isn't as annoying as ads during a loading screen, but even that only works in a modern setting where there aren't ads for things way outside of the tech level for the setting being displayed.

Hey guys

Yeah I totally agree that billboards or blimps could be pretty cool. But again, no need to actually go there if you guys are buying the game and loving it so much that you recommend it to friends etc. We aren't money hungry with this game. We just really wanted this game to be the VR experience that everyone deserves for such great VR hardware that's coming out / already out.

As for the FAQ sticky, I am going to be adding that today, as well as organising the community thread more.

Thanks again guys

You read my mind! We've answered all of your questions and posted them in a new FAQ located here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/486780/discussions/0/358417461604153774/
