Working on some new sprites again. I'm having fun remaking these.

Meet Keylan and Murdoch, my draconian and saurian, These two always seem to be camping next to each other no matter which stronghold I move to, so I like to imagine them as a couple.

Kaylan is a draconian of few words and is very direct, very simple fellow. Murdoch on the other hand is a very aggressive saurian and enjoys a good fight, though he's smaller, he's very much the dominate one in their relationship.

I've built them to complement each other, Murdoch is very much an attacking tank character while Kaylan is his support and backup. I rarely ever have one in my party without the other.

Once I'm done with these sprites, feel free to use them for your own games. I should finish them later today or sometime tomorrow.

Feel free to use these two sprites in your own game if you'd like. I just have one request. Tell me what you think of them!

Thanks for the characters, they look amazing! I've also been trying to create some sprites of my own with custom stories and so forth, although I've been struggling for my inexperience in pixel art. If possible, could you perhaps leave some hints on how you got to the "lineart" on the first image? Did you draw them directly in pixels or sketched and them used the threshold tool? In any case, if you come up with any other characters, or would like to discuss a concept, please do share them with the community.
@adribr91 I sketched them out on paper, scanned those and resized them to the size I wanted on paint then traced them with the pencil tool. Also when I'm lazy I just google pictures of models or figurines that have the pose/body shape I want and resize those and trace out the body.

Lighting and shading come next, then I chose a color pallet and using the eraser tool I right click and replace the colors over the body as I need them.

After that, I add details and adjustments to try and match the sprites to others in the game.

[edit] I then use gimp to give them the transparent background they need and then save them as a PDF file.

I will borrow bits and pieces of existing sprites sometimes to try and further blend them into the art style of the game, but avoid making it obvious. Some tweaking is likely used.

This is just a simple explanation of my process, and probably not the easiest way to go about it, but it's how I go about it.

My latest sprite Bahamut didn't even use anything from the game, it was all heavily influenced and borrowed from Final Fantasy sprites. The body I drew, but everything else, head, wings, horns tail came from other sprites that already exist. The site The Spriters Resource[www.spriters-resource.com] has a useful page where most FF monster sprites are broken down to their parts, I used those.

I'll see if I can make a tutorial on how to make simple sprites for this game, but I'm still not skilled at drawing character sprites as small as they are here (I'm used to adding things like eyes, so tiny sprites where they don't show up is a new challenge for me) the monsters are more my speed.

Thanks for the tips and the link! Since I'm more used to drawing and painting with "traditional" materials, transitioning to digital has been a bit of a challenge. That said, this game rekindled my passion for learning about pixel art and brought back memories from Final Fantasy Tactics (my all time favorite), Marvel Vs Capcom 2, Pokemon Gold and Silver and others from my childhood. I'll keep on trying and may soon post something.

Adribr91 you ever check out final fantasty hacktic? Great place for tactics mods (Off topic so I'll leave it at that.)
